| Summer was almost there, and while she missed the beautiful surroundings of her hometown, she knew she was here to focus on her studies. She had been set up with a pretty decent apartment, and even a roommate to follow! Safe to say, Eris was a little excited. She wasn't really wearing anything extremely stylish today, mostly because she knew she was going to decorate the space she was going to live in; And let's face it, heals would just be annoying after a while. Her hands were shaking a little as she rode the elevator up, stopping at the fifth floor and stepping out, fiddling a bit with her keys. It looked nice already, not extremely fancy, but not like what she had dreaded. Unlocking the door, she stepped in to the light apartment, closing the door behind her before stepping in. There was a small kitchen, pretty standard as study apartments go, and she moved further in. Turning her head she smiled as she saw what she presumed was the common room. Letting out a small squeal of excitement, she jumped up and down for a bit, practically running over to the windows to look out at the view. Sighing to herself, she started humming. There was only standard furniture here, a couch and a small TV, but it wasn't that important to her. She moved further in to the apartment, finding it a nice size for two or even three people. Opening one of the doors to the rooms she looked in. It looked almost sterile, making her scoff a little, but she would have to decorate it. Then she opened the door right next to the other, and inside she found the blinds had been pulled down and shutting out the light. She frowned, not really being able to see anything in the dark before she walked over to the window, pulling the blinds up to let in the light. Then she opened a window, just so that the hot air had a way of escaping. Turning around she saw someone on the bed, jumping up in shock before she placed a hand over her heart. "I am so sorry ... I - I didn't think anyone was in here," she said, her voice timid and bearing the clear accent of a Korinthian. "I'll ... I mean, uhm, I'm Eris, but you probably knew that from the information sheet - You're Darren, right?" she said. Her mind was racing already, taking in his looks, every part of her being analyzing him as a safety precaution. |

| Hadnt it been that getting a rooommate to split up the rent had been his only option, Darren wouldnt have ever agreed to it. It was only because his therapist had been speaking of how good for him it would be to not just be all alone in that big apartment. But she knew that Darren never felt alone. He hadnt ever felt alone in so many years that he now had lost count. Not that he was very social, he was far from it. He mostly kept to his own room and only went outside for necessities like food or the appointments he sometimes had with his therapist. He knew that the new girl would be coming today but he couldnt really bother to make himself presentable. He would know everything he needed to know before she’d even get to touch the door handle. He hated it. He hated it so much that he wouldnt ever need a conversation with a person or even see them to know everything. It would just fall into his lap in all it’s chaotic might and the feeling of that alone was overwhelming. He was asleep when she arrived but woke as she moved around. Hearing another person in his home was so new to him. He just laid still as she moved around, until she got to his room. Why was she coming in? He frowned a little to himself but said nothing as she went to the window. He turned as soon as the fresh wind came in, looking rather unhappy. “So you thought you’d snoop around?” He asked, noticing her accent. A deep sigh left his lips and he pushed himself up to sit, scratching his collarbone a little. He would have thought that things might have been alright, but then he finally caught up on her racing mind that seemed to fixtate on everything at such a high speed, unlike nothing he had ever heard before. It felt like her mind was one super computer, analyzing everything it saw, felt or heard. His face scrunched like he suddenly got the worst migraine and he waved his hand at her. “Out, please!” he demanded harshly as his free hand held his face. He turned around and laid back down, pulling the pillow over his head. “Fucking hell,” he mumbled quietly into the sheet. |

| Eris was often seen as rather sociable, however this was not what she had been expecting. She found herself a little speechless, mostly because her mind was racing at a million miles an hour. Oh no, she was staring at him now, but how could she not? His face, he looked disgusted. No, more irritated. Her eyes darted down as he almost scolded her, and her finger started tapping against her thigh. She was making it awkward. Why was she always making it awkward? Then his voice turned harsh and he demanded her out. Why did she feel like she was going to cry? She rushed out, closing the door behind her. Her body was shaking a little as she took a few steps in to her own room, sitting down on the floor instead of the bed. Her heart was racing, and as she sat there, her fingers were tapping away at the hardwood floor. "You're stupid ... Why did you do that? This is a foreign place, this was not a good idea," she mumbled to herself, feeling herself getting a little out of breath, closing her eyes and counting down from ten. Her mind slowly started to calm down, but it was never really quiet, more like a static continuation in the back of her head. "Okay ... Breathe Eris, calm breaths, just like you practiced it," she mumbled, taking a few good deep breaths, pulling air in through her nose, holding it for a bit before blowing the air out through her mouth. The worst part was over, she thought, now she would just have to live with the fact that she had just insulted her roommate and her first possible friend. She felt stupid, even if her intellect said otherwise. Her tapping had gotten a little better as well, returning to just a slight tap every now and again. She felt warm, her cheeks were red from embarrassment, so she decided to remove her shirt and get up on her feet. She walked to the window, opening it up and just standing there for a while, breathing in some air. It wasn't quite the same as back home, mostly because it lacked the flowery scents. Standing there for a good while, she managed to cool down as well, turning around to look at the furniture in her room. The bed was standard, but it was fine for now, besides that there was a desk, or well, the packaging of it, as it still had to be assembled. Leaning down she took off her shoes, placing them by the foot of her bed before walking over to have a look at the table's instructions. Of course she memorized it as soon as she had read it, but her mind kept wandering back to the guy that was next door. She had been a little weary of sharing an apartment with a man, but in the end she had convinced herself that it was going to be alright. She had read through the manual now, but she seemed to lack some tools. A little sheepishly, she walked to his door, knocking gently. "I'm awfully sorry ... But do you perchance have any tools I could borrow?" she asked, looking down as she wondered where else she was going to get some tools. She didn't really know the city yet, and her card wasn't even activated yet, so she was left with only the cash she had for the rest of the week. "Or do you know a shop?" she asked, frowning at herself. How big of her to ask a man that she had just insulted for help, but she didn't really have anyone else to help her. And she didn't even have the wi-fi code so that she could just search the internet for it. |

| Getting some distance from her loud fast paced mind made him feel a little more easy. It just felt better when the things he heard were small whispers. He couldnt make people stop their thoughts so whispers were as good as they could get. He could sometimes hear the neghbour above yell in thoughts and the man was also such a hot head by the amounts of yelling that Darren had to endure from his room below. Her thoughts became louder and he could tell she was coming to his room before she had knocked. He turned in his bed and listened to her as she asked. Tools? He decided to get out of bed a little sluggish in the speed but eventually he got up. Just long enough for her to ask about the shop. He went to the door and opened it, looking at her with a small frown. “There should be a note on the fridge with everything that you need to know. The tools are in the closet at the front door,” he explained before he made a deep sigh. “I’m really having this massive headache right now, so I’d like some time alone. We can make dinner or something later, maybe,” he said, mostly because he was trying to make it clear that it wasnt her fault, even if it completely was. He couldnt blame her for having her mind work the way it did. He just needed time to adjust to filtering it out. |

| As he opened the door, she leaned her head back a bit to look at his face. Despite how harsh he had sounded, he actually seemed to have a friendly face, if you took away the dark circles under his eyes. She nodded at his words, looking down once more, trying to contain her rapid mind. She knew that people didn't like it when she took too long to answer, but she always analyzed the best way to respond, and by the time that she found something she wanted to reply with, most people had moved on. Swallowing, she rubbed her eyes a little. Her contacts were starting to itch, but she hated wearing her glasses. She felt like it just showed how big of a geek she could actually look like. "Yeah, I'm sorry ... I should've thought things through before I just ruined your nap," she said in a timid voice, feeling her finger tap against her thigh again. Why was she getting so nervous? He was just a guy. Problem was she had never been very good with guys, and she felt her heart beat increase from her fears about men. "No ... No it's fine ... You don't need to hang out with me if you don't want to," she said, mostly because she felt like she recognized that look on his face. The look of irritation, like she wasn't wanted, or that was at least what her mind was trying to fool her into thinking. "I'll go have a look at that note, thanks," she said, walking towards the kitchen. Eris felt a little lost, mostly because if she didn't have a safe home, then what could she have? Not trusting men she had learnt from her father. The man who was actually supposed to love and protect her, saw her more as a burden and a reminder of his dead wife. She was nothing more than a roach to him, and it had taken her so long to get out of the mindset that she wasn't worth anything. However she knew her value, she knew that even though she was a little strange, she had her heart at the right place and she was more than willing to learn these new customs here in Churchill. Going to the kitchen she found the note, however the handwriting was a little hard to decipher. It looked almost as if a toddler had doodled it, but she tried reading it anyways. Walking to the closet she found the tools that she needed, trying to be as quiet as she could before returning to her room. She left the door half open, mostly to circulate the air, and went to work on the desk. It was thankfully not too complicated, and she managed to stand it upright, huffing a bit as it was quite heavy to carry on her own. "That looks decent," she mumbled to herself, however she felt like her room clearly needed to be decorated. From her backpack she took out her wallet, counting out her money as she thought about what she had to pay for. Rent was taken care off, luckily, but she still needed to be set up with a cellphone plan and she would need money for food as well. Tapping her fingers against her new desk, she laid out a plan in her head, managing the money up in to specific groups and categorizing them mentally. Nodding to herself when she felt satisfied, her tapping stopped for a second almost as if she saved what she had planned. Smiling to herself she went to take on her shoes. If her roommate had a headache, maybe it was best for her to just leave, besides she had no food, so she would need to take care of that. Placing the tools back, she grabbed her backpack and her wallet, silently leaving the apartment as to not disturb him.
She returned a couple of hours later, feeling a little frustrated, mostly because she had gotten lost a couple of times. However she had managed to get a cellphone plan and buy food, so it was mostly successful. The only sad thing was that spices were so expensive here, well except for salt and pepper. She missed the small cabinet she had had in her dorm back in Korinthia, but she had not thought to bring it with her. Either way, she decided to go in to the kitchen, opening the fridge and organizing the shelves made for her. Pondering for a bit what she wanted to make, she decided to make a good curry, one that she especially liked eating when it was hot outside. She stood in the kitchen, before noticing a small radio standing in the windowsill. Shrugging she went over to it, turning it on and humming along as she started cooking. |

| He wasnt a malicious person, even if he had come off as rather harsh and angry. “Dont apologize.... Just uhm....” he tried but his head felt like a bunch of rusty gears that were trying to move and produce some sort of sensible thought. He didnt finish his sentence before he suggested dinner which she seemed to shrug off. Or was that him reading the situation wrong? “What’s that supposed to mean? We’ve just met,” he said a little confused, but he already knew why she was acting the way she was. He nodded as she went for the note, closing the door before he went to close the window she had opened before. He grabbed the hinges and stood for a moment before he decided to leave it open just a little. He went back on his bed and closed his eyes and not long after he was completely out like a light.
He woke up to the distant smell of food, sitting up in the now darker room. The sun was setting. It felt weird to not even know what day it was, but that was mostly his life now. He could barely read and the note probably revealed how little he knew about writing as well. He got in a fresh new shirt before he went to the kitchen where she was. “The spices are in the cabinet above the fridge. In a basket,” he explained as he went to another cabinet where he picked out a bottle of pills - It looked like painkillers but they were coloured in blue. He popped a few in his mouth and sighed before he leaned his forehead against the cabinet he had just opened. “Everything’s so fucking loud,” he whispered quietly to himself. He was tired of being a testbunny for some pills that didnt even really do anything to stop the noise. He pulled his head off the cabinet and pulled a carton of milk from the fridge that he drank straight from. “What are you making?” He asked her, holding on to the carton. |

| Eris had calmed down since her walk, focussing on making the curry she had set her mind to. She was just humming along to the music, moving her hips a little as she knew the song on the radio. When she heard Darren enter the kitchen, she didn't really react, mostly because this dish was her comfort food. It was something that could always lighten her mood when she had had a bad day. She nodded, sending him a brief smile as thanks and opened the cabinet to take out the small selection of spices. It was quite nice, and she picked out some that she knew went well in the curry. His comment about everything being so loud made her wonder if he had a hangover. "Were you out late last night?" she asked, smiling at him as she was not one to judge. She didn't go out much, mostly because she found herself overwhelmed with information. She started cutting up some cooked chicken before dropping it in to the thick sauce along with a lot of different vegetables. His question made her chuckle a bit, because to be honest it didn't really have a name. "I guess it's a curry, but I always make it with whatever is available, so it's always the same but different," she said shrugging lightly. She grabbed the carton from his hand, her fingers brushing over his carefully before pouring a bit of milk in to the sauce. "If you think drinking it from the carton is going to discourage me from using it, you're wrong," she teased, handing him the milk back as she started stirring the sauce. Closing her eyes, she felt her eyes irritated. She really needed to go get out her contacts, or it would drive her crazy. "Could you stir for a bit? I just need to get my glasses," she asked, handing him the whisk before he had a chance to reply. "Stir in eights!" she said as she walked out the room and to the bathroom. Her hands were shaking a little as she removed her contacts, sighing in relief when they were out. Now came the struggle, she had to find her way to her room without stumbling in to a wall and embarrassing herself further. Getting to her room she scavenged her bag and grabbed her case with her glasses, popping them on and pushing them up her nose before walking back in to the kitchen. If he was stirring she would move over beside him, smiling as she looked down in to the pot. "You're good at it," she complimented him. Some might've thought that she was making fun of him, but in reality she was being genuine. She had burnt so much food when she was just starting out and learning how to cook. She then grabbed another pot, filling it with water and putting it on a simmer to make it boil. "There should be enough for the both of us, if you trust that I didn't poison it," she said, chuckling a bit as she shook her head. She desperately wanted to get along with Darren, because they had to live with each other for at least a year. Humming along to the music, it seemed like her mind was just plain static right now, almost as if her mind was hollow and she had no thoughts, but it was mostly because she kept herself occupied. "I don't know what you usually do, but I was thinking of watching a movie after dinner - I bought some snacks and a bit of soda if you want to join?" she suggested, mostly just throwing it out there. She wanted to get to know him, but maybe finding some common ground first would be best after their introduction. |

| He wouldnt have thought she would hear his whisper, but it was probably hard to determine such a thing as sound when there was so much of it in his head all the time. Her question made him shake his head, groaning quietly to himself as he rubbed his temples, "No I havent been out in a long while actually.... If ever," he answered, looking a little at the milk in his hand. He was only happy that it hadnt been sour, god would know how many times he had chugged off a bad milk. He let her take it, though it didnt cross his mind that drinking straight from the milk wasnt that polite when someone else was living here now. "Believe me, I'm not doing anything to try and discourage you," he mumbled a little, feeling a slight dizzy from the pills but it would pass quickly. He blinked a few times as she closed her eyes, though he could feel her eyes' irritation like it was his own, telling her to go put on her glasses would just give him away on the spot. And he had experienced how people felt weirded out by him, he didnt want that again. He was given the whisk as he thought about her question, nodding at her instructions on the go. In eights. What a weird way to stir, but he did as she asked. There was something calming about stirring but he never liked making food on his own. It was just too complex when he could order something to be dropped off at the doorstep or even delivered right at his door. He just focused on stirring, so when she came he might have seemed a little distant. "It's just stirring, it's not that difficult," he quickly shrugged off her compliment, even if she had been trying to be genuine. Darren just wasnt that used to being complimented in any other way than the few times his therapist had complimented him for being so good at controlling his ability. Did that even count? A surprised smile spread on his lips as she seemed to offer him some of her dish as well. "I guess there's one way to find out," he said a little playfully, but as joyful as he was trying to seem, there was some sluggishness to his words and the way he moved. The pills were definitely doing something, but he had yet to find out if it was anything useful. "I dont really do much. I sleep most of the day and try to distract myself. It's not that I'm crazy I just... I hear things. A lot of things," he tried to explain but he sighed and shook his head. "Definitely sounds like a loonie innit," he scolded himself and shrugged. He wasnt exactly in a mood to explain how his ability worked, because most of the time he wished it wouldnt work. "I dont watch movies because it all just blends together for me," he then said, hoping that would make some sense, though it probably wouldnt. |

| Eris scoffed when he said that it was easy, mostly because she hadn't found it easy when she had started out. She could still remember the burnt taste of food when she hadn't payed enough attention to her pots. Shaking her head, she adjusted her glasses, making sure that they wouldn't just fall right off and in to the boiling water. She couldn't help but chuckle at his reply, he seemed rather genuine. However he seemed more tired than earlier, perhaps he was still a bit hungover, or the pills he had taken was slowing him down? She couldn't tell. However she couldn't stop herself from frowning as he said he didn't do much. Then how did he have money for the apartment? When he called himself a loonie she shook her head, placing a hand on his shoulder, but only very lightly. "You don't seem crazy to me ... Well, only a little, but I guess we all are to an extend," she said, chuckling to herself as she let go of his shoulder. Noticing the water boil she added some rice to it, turning the heat down a bit. When he said he didn't do movies she nodded. It was fine, but she couldn't help but feel a little disappointed. "What do you like then? Boardgames or maybe just card games?" she suggested. The radio changed to a new song and her eyes lit up a bit. "Oh I love this one," she exclaimed, walking over to turn it up a bit. She sang along, dancing slightly as she started cutting up some vegetables. Eris wasn't really a dancer, far from it, and she wasn't a singer either, however she had confidence enough to pretend like she knew what she was doing. She liked loud music, mostly because it seemed to calm her brain, and not to mention that she had never been allowed to listen to loud music growing up. Her father had been strict, and if she didn't follow the rules, then she would get hurt. "I've never really been the girl to go out either ... I don't really like all of the experiences," she said. "Besides, I don't really trust alcohol ... It made my father crazy," she said, probably oversharing, but she felt comfortable right now. [/color] |

| He didnt really care if she didnt think that he was crazy, because he had been met with that so many times. But he did glance at her hand that was on his shoulder. He didnt like touches, he liked those even less than knowing every thought in the building, but yelling at her for something she couldnt know was just not the way Darren was. He shrugged at her suggestions, frowning a little as he clicked his teeth. Card games were the worst when people kept thinking of their cards, he would know right away. Guess he had to brew on the thought as she turned up the radio and started singing along. Darren closed his eyes and tried to listen to the music, but it seemed that the neighbour above rather wanted to have a mental repetitive thought of reminding themselves to feed the cat. It all just mushed together, songs and thoughts. She spoke again but with the neighbour, that made him look up at the ceiling suddenly from time to time was seemingly provoking him. He had to assume they were still getting to know each other. “I mostly just stick to myself. I’ve got two friends and they’re both assholes in a different way,” he explained with a scoff. He hadnt thought that he would ever get friends, but maybe luck was right up in his alley. “They’ll come around at some point, so you can meet them if you’d like,” he said with a shrug before he frowned looking up at the ceiling. “Just fucking feed your cat already, you’re doing my head’n” he muttered sourly, realizing that the pills werent working once again. “I’m sorry, I just really hate that fucking catlady,” he applogized, still managing to stir the pot. |

| Eris smiled when he said he had friends, mostly because she felt a little excited. She didn't really have any friends here yet, and those back home ... Well they weren't really available here in Churchill. She kept cutting the vegetables, adding some to the sauce, stirring them in a little at the time. When he mentioned her meeting his friends she felt her cheeks flush, looking down as she felt rather overwhelmed with that mention. Were they going to like her? Or were they going to be someone she could hang around as well? So many thoughts mixed together in to one, once more creating a static effect of her thoughts. However she ended up nodding, sending him a shy smile, adjusting her glasses on her nose. When he muttered, she felt herself jump a little bit, cutting her finger and muttering a few curse words in French before walking over to the sink. Turning on the water, she let it run for a bit, the blood mixing in the sink making her a little nauseous. Reminding herself to breathe she took deep inhales followed by calmer exhales. "Do you have some band aids?" she asked, if not she was going to just grab some paper towels to dry off her finger, trying to keep pressure on it. She hated hurting her fingers, mostly because her tapping often made it harder for her to just relax her fingers. "I'm sorry ... I'm so sorry," she mumbled, feeling her eyes water a little. This had been supposed to be great, a good bonding experience, but so far she had messed everything up. Shaking a little she just placed herself with the back to him, cutting the vegetables to the best of her abilities. Why did she have to get emotional as well? It all just felt so embarrassing. |
