For @Cain

At first there had been this incredible blinding light, then the world had turned black and suddenly it felt like her whole body was suspended in grey goop. Or at least that was how it had felt. Grey and slimy was the best way to describe it. Then it was like lightning struck through her body, making her crash against something hard. For the first time in what felt forever, everything seemed to be tangible. Her head was spinning, and as she tried to sit up she felt the coldness of a wall against her back.
The world was still spinning, and it was not showing any signs of stopping. In her hand she was still clutching the apple, her most dearest possession. In a slow movement she pressed it close to her, making it shrink in size so it could attach around her neck as a necklace. However she felt a bit disoriented and had to struggle for a bit just to get the chain around her neck.
And here she was. A fish out of water, her head spinning and she had no clue if this had even worked! She just sat there for a while, looking at the forest in front of her. What a strange place to have a house, she thought to herself, but she hadn't realized that she was actually sitting up against the temple for Justiae. In her world, Justiae was not really a god that was worshipped anymore. There was no balance, so why pray to it? All it was when she had left was pure chaos. Moving up to her feet she brushed off her back to the best of her ability, but she probably still looked a mess. Her hair was put up in her classic bun, but it had lost it shape and had a lot of loose ends poking out. She wasn't really in pain, she was more confused, her head still spinning a bit as everything came back to her. A shiver ran down her spine as she felt her eyes water. Shaking her head, she listened to the words her father had always said to her; You need to be strong, there's no time for crying, crying won't help a damn thing. Breathing out through her nose she took a careful step forward, but her legs felt so shaky, leaning against the wall just to stand up.
What she had done shouldn't have been possible. No one was supposed to travel between realities, and yet here she was. However not knowing if it had truly worked, she didn't want to jump to any conclusions just yet. Managing to move around to the front of the building she stopped for a second, seemingly confused and in awe. Was this ... Raleska? But it looked so different. So ... Well kept? Baffling she turned around to look at the building she was leaned up against, her eyes widening as she saw the image of the shrouded deity. Alright, she was a bit more convinced that this was somewhere else; But was it the right place?

He was traveling to Raleska more and more lately, he always had his normal duties to attend to but on more than one occasion there were special things that required his attention, well him and his kind, especially with the dark situation going on. This time however he was on more of an errand, he had arrived early to help the clergy at the temple but on the side he had asked one of the clergies he was closer with to borrow one of his books.
The evening had almost begun, he could see the sun was on its downwards arch, it wouldn't be too long before it would start to get dark. He was walking in the grand hall with his friend discussing the latest event, sharing their thoughts and what they had both learned from their investigations. They arrive at the entrance of the temple on their way out. "You really think so? We don't know that for sure" Cain said with a worried tone. "Oh yes Cain, i believe it to be so. I am meeting her tomorrow, and if she confirms my suspicions, then it has to be true, we both know that.. But i must leave you, take good care of that book will you" The man places his hand on Cains shoulder and clamps down with a smile before he turns and walks out of the temple. "Thanks again, and see you soon" He looks down at the cover of the book, it was worn, with some small tears on the edges, the book was very old, not ancient, but older than him for sure. This could help him understand the situation more, maybe, regardless, demon history would prove useful for other things if it didn't help with the investigation.
He held the book against his waist with his right hand and walked outside the temple, stopped to take a breath of the cold fresh air, and as he did so, he noticed a figure that stood out to him in the corner of his eye to the left. He walked closer to the person for a better look, they seemed out of place so maybe they needed something, if not he could just be on his way again. Then when he was close to her he was surprised at what he saw, because he didn't know what it was he saw, whatever she was, he had not met someone like her before and that made him curious. "Excuse me miss, you seem... lost. Is there any way i can help you?" He said with a slightly tilted head and frowning eyebrows, but with a modest smile and a warm tone.

The setting sun was placing a nice warm light over the temples, and as Avah stood there, she felt herself in awe. It was just so beautiful. Of course she knew she couldn't stand around here forever, she had things to do, but she felt like she was in some sort of weird dream. She had seen a man leaving the building, but her mind refused to believe what she had seen. Avah hadn't seen a clergy in many years, so many that she was unsure if she had just imagined them ever existing. Then someone spoke to her, and it took her a bit of time to pry her eyes off of the temple to look at the blue eyes that were now in front of her. His stance seemed relaxed, but his eyes looked so surprised. Blinking a few times it was as if she tried to find her words, but she was so stunned that a clergy was actually talking to her. It was like an out of body experience for her.
Frowning she looked down his body, her eyes resting on the book by his hip. Why did she recognize it? Everything felt rather blurred out in her mind right now, but it was simply a side effect of her travel. Suddenly it seemed like she snapped out of it, looking back at his eyes, her face remaining to be rather neutral. "Hiya, I - uh - I don't really know where I am," she confessed, already hearing a scolding in her head by her father, but she ignored that for now. She could trust a clergy, right? At least he wasn't a daemon or gods forbid a seraph. Her eyes darted back to the book, because it just looked so familiar. "What are you reading?" she asked. Maybe an answer about the book would jumpstart her memory slightly.
It was rather disorienting for her right now, because some things were crystal clear, other things were still a muddy mess in her head. Almost as if the grey goop had tried to remove something important in her memories. "Oh, yeah, uhm," her eyes flickered, placing two fingers on the middle of her chest, moving them out towards him. It was a greeting she had learnt at some point, but she couldn't for the life of her know that it wasn't really a greeting in this reality. "I'm Avah, I, uh, I'm not really sure what I'm doing here or how I ended up here," she confessed. Maybe she looked like a mess, but for now she felt like she could trust this guy.

He noticed she seemed really confused and took her time answering him, adding to the her mysterious aura. It came to a surprise when she said she was lost, he had just said she seemed lost but he didn't mean that in the literal sense, more like a life type of way, but maybe it was both. He stepped closer to her, gave way and gestured towards the temple entrance. "You're at the temple of Justiae, in Raleska?" He looked and focused his gesture towards the image of his creator. "You know them right? The God of balance and duty?" He looked back at her with slight confusion still written on his face, everyone knew or had at least heard of the gods even if they didn't believe or followed them. But then again he didn't know anything about her and what led her here, for all he knew she could have just gotten out of a high, he was there to help regardless though.
He followed her gaze to the book he was holding in his right hand, holding it up slightly as she asked for it. "This old thing? It's nothing special, just history on some old lineages." He looked back up at her, keeping some information to himself, he had some questions as well but didn't voice them, at least not yet. Why was she so curious about the book when she had no clue where she was? The priorities seemed way off. He discreetly looked over her shoulder and scanned the background and the environment around them for any clues but nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary. Then she did a weird gesture with her fingers on her chest right before introducing herself. It wasn't something he had seen or heard about before, she must have been a long way from home, or part of some community he didn't know about. He was more worried about the fact that her memories seemed to draw a blank on any explanation on her being there, was she lying?
Seeing as she had her odd gesture, he presumed a handshake would not resonate well with her so he just placed his free hand flat on his chest. "My name is Cain, its a pleasure to meet you, even if the circumstances are what they are" He greeted her, trying to put on a welcoming smile. Regardless of who she was and what her intentions were, she would always be welcome to the temple. He noticed the sky getting darker and the colour around them warmer as the sun set, knowing it would get a lot colder when it was gone. "Do you want to join me inside? i can get you something warm to drink and maybe some memories will come back to you?" he tried convincing her, he was in no rush and it was his duty to take care of any lost soul. He again gestured with his left hand towards the entrance slowly walking towards it with her if she accepted the offer. The room inside would be big but not too tall, he had in mind a place for them to sit but it was a short walk there.

From never really having met a clergy, Avah was actually rather surprised. She had only heard stories about them, how they were willing to take care of others, and this man in front of her displayed it so clearly. "Yeah, I guess I know bits and pieces about them," her eyes straying from the stranger and up to the shrouded deity. Gods and goddesses had always been a weird construct for Avah to wrap her head around. Was she dreaming or having some weird hallucination. Her lips separated, wanting to say something, but her mount just snapped shut as she seemed to regret it. In her world the gods had long abandoned the world, left their creations to their own destructions. However it didn't seem to be the case here, it seemed like a truly holy place, or at least a clear place of worship, not that Avah knew much about that sort.
The talk about the book was brief, but looking in to the stranger's eyes she could almost tell he was holding something back. Not that she was a lie detector, more the fact that his eyes seemed almost remorseful. Or perchance it was just Avah reading too much in to the situation. Opting not to think too much about it, she just nodded, taking the reply as the final answer - for now.
Her gesture she clearly had seemed to want a response on, so when it wasn't, there was a clear disconnect in her body. Tilting her head to the side, she looked as the stranger introduced himself. Cain. Strange name, but she guessed her own wasn't that normal either. Her father had insisted on giving her a name that wasn't common. Her eyes drifted to the entrance of the temple at the clergy's gesture, nodding before she had even thought it through. Something in her knew to trust this man, something she didn't experience a lot. Perhaps because he seemed genuine and she hadn't met a lot of those. Following him, she kept her distance, not a lot, but just enough for her to still be able to see his whole body. It was something that lingered from how she was raised; If you could see all of your opponent, then there was nothing to worry about.
She was quite fascinated as she stepped in. The walls bare, painted in a light grey color, but not a color that made her sad. It was just neutral - very fitting for a god of balance, she thought. Following Cain she looked around curious, but one thing she couldn't shake was the fact that she felt like someone was watching her. "Lineages," she just mumbled, looking at the book he was still holding. Maybe she was just hype fixating on it, but she felt like there was something important she needed to remember. "So ... You're a real life clergy?" she asked.

Cain noticed how she kept some distance between them, added to the long list of strange behaviour it was suspicious, but on its own it wasn't that abnormal, especially for someone who was lost and could not recall their recent past. He didn't question her about it and just let let her have the space she needed to feel safe while he moved up the stairs and pushed in the door. The place was not grandeur in any way, it boasted some space but that was really it, everything inside was not there to take away your attention to why you were there in the first place. "It's this way, not far" He held his book to his side while walking them over to the spot he hand in mind, it was a bit off the centre of things, slightly more secluded. When he heard her mention the lineages he told her about earlier it made him tighten his grip on the book, he was still curious to why she was so interested in it, but again he didn't say anything and kept his questions to himself. He saw the place when he heard her talk to him, again asking an odd question though not unheard of, there were those that weren't spiritual or just didn't know when they met a clergy. "That's right, am i your first one?" He said with a slight chuckle, trying to break some tension. "There are plenty of us around, I'm sure you must have seen one of us before" He smiled back at her before as they finally arrived to where he wanted to bring her. It was a resting area, made to invoke peace and inspiration for those that needed it. A fountain a bit smaller in size than him going to the ground level with some vegetation around it. He noticed it had been cleaned recently as there were no coins at the bottom of it. It wasn't designed as a wishing fountain, but on occasion when people brought kids to the temple a few would think it was and toss in a coin if they had them. Personally he didn't mind, he found it endearing, if it made some people believe or just made children more happy to come to the temple then why not, and he never found it to be a hassle to clean it up whenever anyway.

he gestured to one of the chairs close to the fountain so they could hear the water running, hoping it would help calm her down and make her feel more relaxed, it worked for him so he figured it was worth a shot. "Sit, relax, i will quickly get something for you to drink" He waited for her to sit down or at least some confirmation that she would stay, then started to slowly walk away while calling back to her, taking the book with him as he did not trust her with it. "I can get you tea or hot chocolate, seeing as it's a bit late for coffee no?" He said with a warm tone, going back to a welcoming host as he tried to be whenever they had visitors. The hot chocolate was a relatively new addition to the small kitchen that was available only for the clergy. Some of them argued that they could make the place more welcoming to children as it was all rather boring for the youth in the temple, by design obviously.

"Y-yeah, but my mom always spoke well about your kind," she said, a bit surprised by it all. What she could remember was the temples of Raleska literally in ruins. Just seeing a version of it actually functioning was almost mind-blowing. Of course inside the actual temple, there was minimum of decoration, fairly fitting for a god centered around balance. Part of her memory sparked as he led them through the temple until they reached a more quiet spot. It wasn't like deja-vu, it was more of a memory that sparked in her mind.
As he gestured for her to sit down, she looked at the seat, narrowing her eyes a little before nodding, sitting down but keeping her eyes on him. Sure, she could trust him to some extent, but how much was uncertain. "Tea would be nice," she said, nodding a little as he turned his back on her. Her hand moved up to her necklace, playing with the chain as her eyes watched him. Not only that, but she noticed how he didn't even dare to put down the book, which made her smile a little. Had she said something to upset him in regards to it? Or had she given off the vibe that she might take it from him? Regardless, wondering about the different things would lead her to know answer.
"It's so peaceful," she hummed, looking over at the fountain, looking around as she saw very few people in the temple. She got up from her seat, walking over to the silent trickling of water, looking down in the small pond. Her mind kept showing her memories that were slowly coming back to her. Memories of her family, of her friends but then ... Everything went that slimy grey color once more. Closing her eyes, she breathed out, feeling like she got dizzy once more. One thing was for sure, however she had landed in place, there had to be some sort of meaning to it, right? At least she had to trust her former self that this was where she was meant to be. Why she couldn't remember everything was strange, and the world around her just seemed so different from her memories.
Slowly she opened her eyes, looking down at the pendant around her neck, the small round ball that was so familiar to her. Her hand moved up, rolling the small pendant between her thumb and index finger; A habit she had that always seemed to calm her down from whatever was bothering her. At least she knew the importance of this seemingly boring jewelry, it was all she had now. Just her and this apple as she had come to call it. Perhaps because in it's original size it was just about the size of an apple. Either way, she thanked her lucky star that she was somewhat safe right now.
As Cain returned, she walked back to where she had been gestured to sit and did just that. Taking the cup from his hands, smiling at the warmth it gave her fingers, she just looked around a bit before he would eventually sit down herself. The tea was still to hot to drink, she could feel that from the temperature of the cup itself.
"So, clergy ... What do you do exactly?" she asked, before realizing how terrible of a question that might be, shaking her head at herself. "I mean my mom told me a bit, but I'm not really good at remembering stuff - If you haven't been able to tell," it was a simple joke, but there was some truth to it. However lightening the mood right now might be better than focusing on that familiar book in his possession.
