| The Old World ⌈Every story has an end, but in life every ending is a new beginning⌋ Before humans arrived to this new world with different species as inhabitants, they lived in their own world in another dimension. That was was much like the one we know, but it was filled with greed, lust and everything bad. Sinners were everywhere, making their god turn a blind eye to their destruction as the world started to crumble beneath their feet.
Every city ran purely on energy generated through nuclear power, and thereof was most of the waste produced sent to smaller third world countries as some sort of dumpster ground. Soon the less fortunate countries were inhabitable, forcing it's people to die from radiation or move to bigger cities. Nuclear war was countries way of bargaining, the richest country holding the upper hand in the matter. Wars rose and more countries were blown to wastelands, making unaffected areas a sanctuary for those that didnt want to be affected by the nuclear radiation.
Their world was dying, and most of them knew, but only few cared to figure out a solution. Their earth wasnt salvageable, radiation levels from their wars rose slowly till the point where humans slow but surely would be annihilated. The world would be fine, but in order to do so, all living life had to die. Some humans tried to travel out in space, only to be lost forever. Others ended their life way before the radiation would. But one scientist figured out a way to save humanity - Or at least a selected portion of it. A portal to a new dimension, a clean slate for humanity to rewrite their fate in a world where radiaton or corruption wasnt a problem. Riots were started as requirements to even get near the portal was dictated by corruption.
The scientist wasnt going to let the corrupted government hold it's tight grasp around his creation, so in an attempt to make sure everyone had a fair chance of survival, he spread the blueprint for his machine to other scientists all over the world. The governments had their portals built in the center of their cities where the rich could pass through as long as they promised their loyalty to the same government in the new world. But something went horribly wrong and half the portals either broke or turned into a warp between dimensions, sucking out pieces of the world to turn it to dust. Many people in the capitols didnt make it to the new world.
Meanwhile, the scientist had made small portals in secluded areas of the city, but at the news that portals were swallowing their world, people started to panic and soon it was a battle to just make it to the portal. The scientist himself never made it through the portal. When a fair amount of people had passed through to this new world, all portals malfunctioned and whatever that happened to their old world is never to be found out. One thing is however sure; If the portal didnt destroy humanity, the radiation would. |
