Stay out of it

“Yeah? I think I do.” She said, feeling a little too aware of where she stood and how she was quite out of place. Moving over to a chair she sat down, folding her hands a little. “Care for him?” She asked. That didnt quite sound like Rhys. Well, if he was using drugs it could be likely, but he had said he would stay clean for now. “I would try. I’m not a superhuman.” no, just a dead girl. Sighing she looked at her phone, no service. “I dont know this part of your brother. And I dont think he really wanted me to yet, so I dont think you should tell me too much about him.” She said, looking at her for a bit before looking away. She was quite loyal already, but it was also out of respect. She couldnt say that she wasnt snoopy but she also knew her place in all this. “He’s really sweet when I’m with him.”

“I dont need protection.” She said with a shrug. She couldnt die, but no one really knew that. She wasnt even sure herself, it was more like a gut feeling that she had chosen to trust. The mention of his past however, even if Emily deemed herself loyal and trusting, did peak her interest. But that was maybe more her wanting to know more about him. Get all the ABC’s of Rhys Kaine in order. Because she had already fallen for him. She didnt think that anything could scare her away. She was fiddling a bit with her fingers in silence, unsure of what to ask. “I wouldnt judge him.” She ended up saying which was true. Could she judge him for something when her past was probaby just as troubled?

“I’m not.” She said with a small frown, but surely a sister wouldnt believe her as easily as some stranger. She couldnt quite connect them and yet there were some subtle hints that came through. But Emily wouldnt say that she had a lot of experience in telling siblings apart. “I’ll stay put so no one will be gutted today.” She assured her. Though Emily felt tired already. Her neck was also itching again. She tried to scratch around it but it clearly wasnt what her body wanted. She looked at the nightstand and hummed. “Have a nice talk.” She said, remaining seated in the chair till Nyx left. She got up and just went to lie next to the bed, looking at the cat. “Hey friend. Sorry you had to go through all that.” She said, just speaking calmly to the cat like she had when it was still in that cardboard box outside in the alley.

Emily didnt reach out to touch the cat but just watched it. It brought her so much joy by just being there, if she had to be honest. She didnt pay attention to her surroundings before all the commotion started. Sitting up she could hear the screaming and yelling. She heard the speaker phone above but she still got up and went out. Where people where heading, she decided to go against, mostly because they seemed so fearful. She saw Rhys with Nyx and a bunch of people around who seemed so scared and frightful.
Everyone else could be scared all they wanted but Emily stepped forward, moving carefully over to stand by Nyx side, facing Rhys. She could tell that she stood out like a sore thumb, she didnt belong here. “Hey.” She called in a softer voice, though it probably wasnt a good idea, she took a step forward towards him. Frankly, she would rather get hurt than watch him be shot by these men around them.

She heard Nyx’s pleading but Rhys being here right in front of her only meant that the only way for her, really was forward. She could see how he looked at her, like he couldnt quite recognize her. “It’s okay if you hurt me. It’s okay.” She spoke in a calm soothing tone, reaching out to wipe some blood off his face with her fingers. So what if he hurt her? She was just happy that he was finally here.

She could see how he was scared and she wanted to soothe that hurt and push it out of his mind. He reached out but the loud bang made her flinch as well as she hadnt expected it. When she looked at Rhys again he had staggered backwards and she looked at him with scared eyes. “No.” She whispered, reaching out to hold his face but he fell before she reached him.
Gritting her teeth she looked at him, feeling her chest hurt. A man spoke but she was just looking at Rhys and then Nyx as she came over. Was he breathing? All talk sounded like blubber to her, nothing made sense right now. She at least ignored Nyx as she just stared at the hybrid who had passed out. The first man that tried to reach out to Rhys, she punched, though she wasnt the strongest, she put her all in that, hissing angrily at the rest if they got near. She did look quite ghoul-ish in that moment, like she really wasnt human, nor vampyre, nor daemon or anything in the likes, just proper dead and still alive somehow. She got on her knees and just pulled him in, ignoring everything else. “I’m sorry.” She mumbled, wrapping her arms around him.

Emily just held him, touching his face, removing blood with the sleeve of the hoodie she was wearing. It wasnt like there wasnt blood on it at this point. She listened to Nyx but she kept her eyes on him. “Where are they taking him?” She asked. She could tell that there was a leader in the midst of everyone else, but she was the outsider here. She wasnt forced to abide their rules.
“I want to stay with him till he wakes up.” She said, before she turned her head to look at the man who had been barking orders before. “I’m staying with him.” She said, her face clearly showing that she wasnt budging on this. She was far too stubborn for that.

Was it obvious that she was in love with the guy covered in blood on her lap? Probably was. Maybe people wondered how that could be so. That she wasnt cowering and hiding away in fear as everyone else. But she didnt fear him. She didnt think she ever could.
She was removed from sitting there with her arms around him and there wasnt really much to do about that. She could try and fight the goons just to realize that she was still as weak as a human. She was put in a chair and kept down by her shoulders, frowning as she looked at the man in charge. Gritting her teeth she didnt know what to do, beside sot still and do nothing.

“I do.” She agreed, noticing Nyx’s behaviour in the corner of her eye. This man was really in charge of everyone wasnt he? The mention of Rhys made a frown appear on her face but she bit back her words. Was he trying to aggrevate her? It was working.
She looked at the smoke, before looking back at the elder; he looked refined like a gentleman but she wouldnt say that she viewed him as so. She shook her head at the question. “I didnt ask about his work, or what he did.” She said truthfully. She knew that he collected money, not more than that. “But you said he’s your son, so now I know that. And everyone looks to you like you’re in a position of power so I guess that you are in control of everything.” She said. She was observant when she wanted to.

“Is it always like that?” She asked, crossing her arms a little. She didnt want to be too snoopy but maybe have an idea of what was going on here, so she was sure to steer clear from it. But just how clear she could be now that she had been brought here, only time would tell. “Yikes.” She sighed. So much for honesty. She looked back, though they were far gone from that room at this point. She thought they were just headed to Nyx’s room but then they stopped someplace she was sure they hadnt been. Go see him? She didnt have to say that twice. Emily muttered a quiet thanks, before heading inside.
