| Cesare had drawn up a bath for himself. He wanted to be surrounded by warmth he would never get to be without it. He wanted to feel alive even if his body was dead. Leaning his head back, he just stared up at the ceiling, the warm water surrounding him before closing his eyes. He sunk down under the water, just wanting to be in a world where he didn't have to hear anything but muddled sounds through the water. He therefor didn't hear as the door to the bedroom was opened. Coming back up to the surface he sighed, rubbing his face a little. He hummed a small tune, a song he remembered from when he had just been a boy. The lyrics he remembered as well, and the story was sad. Closing his eyes his tones filled the damp room, but not singing the lyrics, simply humming the melody. He was terrible at goodbyes. He was terrible at handling his emotions, and it had taken everything in him to let Benjamin go. But he had to, didn't he? He couldn't betray Sadie like that, even if she was a brat that didn't always deserve his kindness, she was still a surrogate daughter to him. |

| He could hear the faint tune being hummed, standing in the door, staring down at the floor as he listened. He leaned his head a little onto the frame, just quietly listening. Whatever fury that had fuelled him before had died down to an extinguished ember. The guilt usually followed but he didnt quite regret swinging at the vampyre, as he had warned him beforehand. He knew this might be the point of no return; either leave or stay. Though he didnt want to stay. It felt too much like a fairytale. He had to get back home to live his normal life. And maybe then he’d find out whether the vampyre had changed something. But then again, would he be able say that the vampyre had done nothing now that he stood here instead of driving away? He entered and walked towards the bathroom. “This is bullshit. It makes no sense. You’ve been doing so much to keep me here with you and now you’re sending me away?” He said. He needed the closure. He needed to know what had suddenly changed. |

| He was quite surprised to see as Benjamin entered, demanding answers now. He turned his head a little slowly, remnant of watered down blood in the vampyre's eyes. He had tried holding back the tears, he really had, but some had escaped anyways. He turned his face away, "I told you you could leave," he just said, waving his hand at him as if he was dismissing him. He didn't need to be mocked now. "I don't do this because I want to .. but answer me how I could ever make you happy if I kept you here with me?" he tilted his head a little bit, popping a bubble in the bath, wrinkling his nose. "You would always have that excuse; that you are forced to like me, that you would never be around me because I was forcing you, when in reality you could've left at any point .. I didn't keep you in the hotel room, you just wanted to fight someone and picked one of the guards put there to protect you," he hummed, smiling a bit to himself as he perhaps found himself pitiful after all. "I'm old, my dove, if I wanted to have you, I would have - I could've compelled you; I could've held you down and taken every part of you without your permission." He wasn't wrong in that. But what was the fun in taking when people could give him? He was crazy, yes; he could make people suffer, sure; but he could never force anyone to devote themselves to him. Perhaps that was why his sires stayed with him. Because through his cruelty he wasn't forcing them to stay, in fact he had given them plenty of reasons to leave. But they kept their loyalty. "Now you need to make up your mind .. do you want to stay or do you want to go?" |

| He wasnt accepting the dismissal now. He wasnt even trying to mock Cesare but it might have come off as such. He had a point though. Joe wouldnt have been happy if he had been forced to stay, but this didnt feel quite right either. He however listened. Could he even deny what the vampyre was saying? But then again, that hadnt been their agreement. Joe grit his teeth a little remaining silent as Cesare made it obvious. He had wanted the human to be there by his own will. He looked at him with his frown, looking at the hint of blood in the vampyre’s eyes. He knew they cried blood. The ultimatum made him clench his hands. He thought about it, looking away as he felt rather conflicted considering how bad he seemed to have wanted to get away. Hesitation? “I’m going.” He finally decided, even if it didnt sit right with him. He had to get back to his normal life right away. He lingered for a moment like he was considering his choice. “Goodbye Cesare.” He bid him farewell, leaving him there in the bathroom. |

| Cesare wasn't good at this. In fact he was terrible. Perhaps that was why he couldn't even look at him. He knew the human had made up his mind, even if he was hesitating, he knew the bigotry in him would win eventually. He was said goodbye to and he chuckled softly, though it sounded sad. "Don't go back to your boring life .. go travel .. go see the world and stop being stuck in that town," a final few words of wisdom before he got out of his bath. He grabbed his towel wrapping it around himself, at least looking decent. He continued his humming, the melody sad as he went to the mirror. Looking at himself he frowned, seeing his eyes staring back at him. "She followed him out the forest, and collapsed upon the earth," his voice soft and gentle as he finally sang the final verse of his song as he finished drying off himself, not really aware of the fact that Benjamin would be able to hear him, "her feet had walked but a distance, from the green land of her birth." - She faded into a flower, that would bloom for one bright eve. He could not take from the forest, what was never meant to leave." |

| Boring life? Joe wasnt sure the vampyre understood how nice it could be to have a peaceful and quiet life. Even if Joe deep down liked adventures and wanted to see the world. He just wasnt ready to confront that part of himself just yet. He stopped as he heard the vampyre’s faint singing. He did listen but as soon as the vampyre finished, the human left.
And life did go back to normal. Joe’s work as a bouncer had him working late in hhe weekends. But something felt off. He was sure that he was being watched. His instincts told him as much. He didnt have the perks of special senses but he did eventually figure out that a vampyre was watching him. His intuition told him as much. Was it Cesare? He doubted it. It was late night early morning by the time he clocked out to head home. That was when he noticed a figure looking in his direction to then move away. He clenched his hands and followed it. Not that it was his smartest idea. It wasnt like Cesare or Sadie was the only vampyres that had seen him at the secret vampyre club. |

| Cesare would have to take a bit of time away from this place. He needed to go away again, but he wasn't sure where. Perhaps he felt stuck because of everything that happened, but the best thing was that he didn't have anyone tying him down. He could do as he pleased, even if it stung that the human had left. He knew he couldn't have kept him here.
The weeks had passed, and while Cesare wasn't in town, some of his sires were. They were his eyes and ears. However they weren't tasked with anything in regards to the human whom he had let go, despite their willingness to do so. No, Cesare had meant to keep his promise. He wouldn't exist to the human, he wouldn't be seen and hopefully the human could forget him as well. But as with all things, people get jealous. Jealous of who has the attention of one of the oldest vampyres that aren't sitting somewhere turning to stone. A female vampyre was keeping an eye on him. What was his deal anyways? And why had Cesare disappeared while this mortal had seemingly returned as if nothing had happened? She knew that he had spotted her, and she gladly let him follow. The morning was still dark, and the sun was barely peaking its head out from the long night. Once she had lured him away enough she would remain in the shadows, looking at him, studying him. "Where is he?" she demanded an answer. |

| He didnt quite knew what to expect as he followed the figure. Surely it wouldnt be Cesare. The vampyre had promised. Joe at least thought it would be a week or a month before that would happen. But being met by a female vampyre who seemingly demanded answers Joe didnt have. “Who?” He asked even if he had an idea who she wanted to find. It was probably just better to play dumb. Pretend like the vampyre hadnt made an impression. That Joe didnt think of him once in a while. Okay, he did think of him often, only to mutter something angry at himself or curse at the vampyre even if he wasnt there. |

| "Stupid boy," she hissed, not buying what he was trying to sell her. No she was too clever for her own good, stepping up closer, she grabbed around his shirt, pushing him back against the clammy wall of this small alley. Her face close to his, studying his eyes, "Cesare Leone," she said, because surely that would ring a bell to him, at least she would be able to see it in his eyes. Many people could lie, but a vampyre could always read their eyes, even without knowing them. "Now, you are going to tell me where he is, and I'll be on my way sparing your filthy little life," it was clear she was as cold as they came. She didn't care if this human died or not, she was only interested in finding Cesare himself. A rustle was heard from the entrance to the alley, another vampyre walking in, but it wasn't Cesare either. "Let him go, Mariah," the vampyric male spoke in a tired voice. "We have orders .." - "I don't give a shit about your orders, none of you little sires want to speak, so I am finding out what happened to him!" The female vampyre cut him off. The male sighed, rolling up his sleeves, "I did warn you," he said, and before the human could blink he was by Mariah, grabbing her arm and twisting it around. "It's quite alright, Mr. Harris, just go back home." He was calm and collected as the female hissed and snapped at him like a wild beast. The male tried smiling but he looked more constipated than anything. |

| He could sense the danger but it wasnt like it told him okay now you’re going to get pinned to a wall so he expected something but not that. Gritting his teeth it wasnt exactly pleasant for him. As she said the name of the vampyre she was looking far, Joe frowned. Yes, he knew him but no he didnt know where he was. She would be able to tell from the confusion in his eyes. Unless she believed him to be a really good liar. Another vampyre intervened and he looked in the direction, frowning lightly at their exchange. As much as he might have wanted to know what was going on, he also didnt want to get too tangled up in everything. “Nothing happened.” He then just told the female even if the male said it was alright for him to go. “He let me go home and I didnt see him again.” He spoke rather truthfully. But was the truth satisfying? If Cesare was gone right after, it must have meant that Joe had hurt his feelings, broken his heart? Joe didnt think about that as he had spoken. |

| "He couldn't just disappear! He's never gone without telling me!" She insisted, gritting her teeth as the male had her grabbed and forced on her knees. "Mariah, please do not be so rude," he spoke tiredly still. He wasn't in the mood for this. "While we value your honesty, Mr. Harris, I do urge you to head home and forget what has transpired tonight .. the agreement still stands," referring to the fact that Cesare wasn't seeking the human out. He had simply been here to take care of Mariah, not the human. The female wiggled, trying to get out of the grip but it seemed that even for a vampyre, the male was strong. "Please, I just need to know where he is .. he must be hurt .. he must need me," she pleaded, looking to the human. Even if she had just threathened him it was clear she was capable of spinning the narrative to her benefit. "Please, just tell me where you saw him last." Was that not a fair question then? The male sighed, shaking his head as he covered Mariah's mouth. "Head home, Mr. Harris, do not answer any of her questions," he spoke in an almost monotone voice. |

| Joe didnt really know what to believe as the female, Mariah seemingly changed from threatening to desperate. Was this how their bond worked? He frowned a little, looking at the male as he seemed to urge him to just go. But it didnt seem right to not say anything. “Look, I dont know. I’ve barely spent time with him.” He just told her, before he shook his head, thanking the male for his help before he adjusted his cap. He turned halfway before he stopped. “I’m not special. He’s probably out there finding someone else. That is who you should worry about more, I guess. Alright? Leave me out of whatever worry you’ve got. He made me choose.” He just had to point it out before he turned to go. |

| Mariah stopped her pleading as the human pointed out that it had been his choice to leave. She looked stunned, and it was clear she was struggling to believe that. If Cesare had given him that choice it was worse than she thought. "I don't know what deal you made .. but he might be hurt .. I can't allow that," she said before the male grabbed around her head, snapping it clean off. He had tried to do this in a civil manner, but she simply wouldn't shut up. He picked up the female's body, turning to leave as he wasn't here to look out for the human. And while he did worry for Cesare, he couldn't go against an order made by his sire. However something made him stop. "I am very sorry about this .. I'll make sure nobody will come near you again," the male said, sending him a polite smile, though his smile was still looking almost lazy. He left the human behind, seeing as his job was done for now. However the human wasn't done for the night of vampyric surprises. His phone was soon buzzing, an unknown number calling him. |

| It was odd. He really wanted not to care but the female vampyre was stirring thoughts in his head. Maybe he could try and think of her as just another monster. Not believe a word she said. A vampyre hurt? A vampire having feelings? He was surprised to see the male snap her head off just like that. He frowned a little, watching the male take the body with him. The male stopped and Joe frowned. He shook his head. “It’s fine. I dont deserve it.” He just said, not wanting help like that. It wasnt his business what their orders were but he wouldnt have this vampyre look out for him like that. When he was left alone and his phone rang, he frowned. Unknown number. He picked up. “Hey, Joe speaking?” He greeted the other end but there was no answer. He ended up hanging up before he moved out of the alley to go back home.
Some time passed and he just worked. When he wasnt working, he was working on an old car. It was slowly coming to. His mother came by once in while with some food. It was nice talking to her but he disliked the marks around her arms. She chuckled it off and blamed it on the current heatwave making his father more irritable. He however didnt believe it. The bastard was just getting sloppy, or maybe he just didnt care anymore. Joe sat one evening by his kitchen table in his little apartment, just staring into nothing as he was in deep thoughts. Next to him was a gun. Would he really do this? He turned his eyes to it. With a expression full of dismay, he picked it up and stuffed it in the back of his pants before he got his jacket and moved out to the car he had been fixing. It would manage the tour. Even if it was a little far. He got in and sat for a while before he put in the key to slowly turn it. But he didnt turn it yet. He got out. Called himself crazy in a few mutters. He couldnt do it. He was a coward. Gritting his teeth he got back in. Decided to just not give a shit. He lit a cigarette but managed to burn his thumb as well, gritting his teeth in pain, hitting the wheel in frustration. Fuck. |

| As the weeks passed he wouldn't be disturbed. In fact it was almost like every vampyre in town was avoiding him. Barely noticing him on the streets or kicking up a fuss if he denied them entry. All in all it was sorta peaceful? However a pair of eyes were always watching. And as the human sat there in his car, a woman sat down in the passenger's seat next to him. "You fixed this one up real nice," Sadie smiled, not really looking at him, just staring at the interior. But it wasn't because of the car that she was here. No, she knew her brother even if he would never call her sister again. She chuckled softly, "I might be severely punished by even talking to you, and you don't even see me as alive anymore," she was pathetic, wasn't she? But he was her brother. He was the good kid of the family, even if their father had sworn up and down the walls that they were all damned to rot amongst daemons and vampyres in the afterlife. "I know you .. and I know you have a gun," she just said, it was a fact that she knew from when he had been to the run-down vampyre party house. She sighed again, "now, I've seen mother visit you more and more," did she really need to say anything else? Perhaps not. She had been thinking about going back to their small town, perhaps give them a real monster to pin crimes onto. "I know I am what I am because I asked to be .. but you don't have to feel forced to do this," she said, reaching over to touch his hand, but she regretted, pulling away as to not see the disgust on his face. "You're not like father," she just said, looking out the front window of the car, the windshield having a few nicks in the glass, but nothing too serious. "I want to be the one who kills him," she just said. Was that not fair? She knew her sire had talked her out of it back in the day, but now he was missing and if her brother was even considering it, then why not? |

| He frowned a little once the handle was pulled on the sidedoor, but seeing Sadie of all right now was like a godsent gift from heaven. He couldnt say how relieved he really felt to see her. Even if she wasnt her or whatever bullshit he told himself, she was herself enough to understand the struggle he sat in right now. He looked at her with teary eyes, listening to her. “She looks worse every time.0 he muttered as Sadie mentioned their mother coming around more. Was he just supposed to ignore it? He couldnt. “I dont feel forced. But I habe to protect her. I have to.” He muttered, feeling the tears press on. He felt horrible. She touched his hand and she was so cold, it stung. But he was also so warm with frustration and anger. “I’m more like him every day Sadie.” He protested, even if she didnt see him that way. He closed his eyes and drew in a trembling breath. “You should have killed the whole family instead of letting that vampyre talk you out of it.” He then whispered, closing his eyes as the tears built up, though they found a way out regardless. “You didnt see what he did when you left. When someone else was blamed for what happened to you. Fuck, Sadie, it was just a child.” He said, but it turned into a whisper and then he cried. It was the memory that had woken up when Cesare had spoken about his sister and now it was there again. “You should have just…. I wouldnt even have been angry at you.” He whimpered, drying his eyes a little. |

| Sadie knew her brother's pain. It had been what she had gone through back then. He had spoken about being more and more like their father for every passing day but she shook her head no. "You couldn't have known .. Benjamin, that whole town is filled with bigots who gladly follow the twisted teaching of the preachers," she said. She knew. She had grown up with all of it. She had seen shit too. "In fact I think just stopping yourself right now you're less like him than you think," she pondered. Either way. This wasn't what it wss about. "Benjamin .. my soul is already forfeit," she said, because while she had a new life, there would always be a part of herself that would hold onto what she was raised to believe. "I don't want you to suffer under this burden; I'm a monster anyways, so I should start acting like it." She looked down, sniffling a little as all she had wanted when she saw Benjamin was keep him out of harm's way. "I know you don't see me as your sister anymore, but I still consider you my brother," she said, holding her tears back before looking at him, "Let me do this for you .. I couldn't stop it back then, but I have the strength and power to do it now." |

| “I knew dad. I should have known.” He argued, rubbing his eyes to get the tears out. He disliked crying so much and how it made his eyes swell up and his face get puffy. She spoke about her soul and he shook his head. “Dont say that.” He whispered barely. He knew he had been cruel to her but right now he needed his sister more than anything. He went quiet for a while, a few tears running down his cheeks. “No. I’ll do it Sadie. I should have done it before you ran away. I made him so angry that day. I did this to you.” He said, his voice almost emotionless, but the guilt he felt was too much. “Put on your seatbelt.” He muttered, turning the key to start the engine. He wouldnt let her stop him. So she could stay or go. He let her make the choice. |

| She put on her seatbelt. There was no way she was going to let him do this alone. The drive felt awful, at least to her, but perhaps it was because she could almost hear Cesare pleading with her. A sire was a special bond in that way, but she chose to ignore it. Thinking of him, she almost had to ask. "What happened with the two of you?" she had to know. He hadn't been seen since and the others that were usually very close with him wasn't speaking. It was truly as if he had vanished. "I don't know what sorta deal you made with him, but I bet I could talk him out of whatever he's having you do," still looking out for him in that sense. That was the least she could do. Looking out the window, the city was soon left behind as they went further and further out into the country side. She felt a pressure on her chest, grabbing on to the bottom of her shirt, a nervous habit from when she was younger. "I don't want mom to get hurt in this," she said, looking down as she had so many regrets about her. But also a lot of anger towards her as well. She hadn't ever tried to fight their father. She had just let things happen. She had looked the other way when Sadie had been beaten and worse. "I know she's guilty by proxy .. but she deserves to be herself in this, choose her own way," maybe that was too much to ask. Who knew? Perhaps there mother would turn out just as cruel? |

| “With who?” He just asked, focusing on the road, though he definitely had an idea who she was referring to. The way she continued like something was supposed to have happened made him clench the wheel lightly. “He hasnt made me do anything. It’s over. We’ve moved on.” He just said, turning out of the cuty, checking each mirror to make sure it was safe. He was quiet, just thinking about what he was going to do. If he would be the same. If he even really had the courage to do it. But he had to. He would have to deal with whatever consequences. “I’m doing this for her too.” He muttered. He couldnt forget the marks, the black eye. “She protected you too. You just didnt know. But I saw it. The things she would do to make him forget you for a while.” He grit his teeth, feeling so disgusted and angry. “You’ve made a good life for yourself now Sadie. Dont let me drag you down, just because I’m still stuck in the past.” |

| "We both know who I'm talking about," she just said, his reaction surprising her a little. The way he insisted on the fact that he had just been let go. It was a bit out of character for her sire to act like this. But then again, maybe it was exactly how he was; unexpected and unpredictable. He spoke about her being protected by her too, even if she hadn't seen it. But she still found it hard to believe. Even so, her mother had looked at her with so much hatred and disgust when she had shown up changed. The words about her good life made her scoff. "I think that is a little rich coming from someone who doesn't even consider me alive," she commented, mostly because he had said so himself. To him his sister was dead. "I've found a new home, a place where people care for my protection .. but I still struggle with accepting who I am and what I've become." She sighed leaning her head back in her seat. "I'm sorry," she whispered, closing her eyes. |

| "Where is your heartbeat then?" he just asked her straight up, even looking at her. Though he knew these roads by heart so it was almost as if he could drive them with his eyes closed. He just wasnt going to. He listened to her struggle, humming as he nodded. "Did you know what you were asking for when you asked to be changed?" he asked, more as a genuine question than ever some kind of mockery. It wasnt like he truly knew what it was like to be a vampyre. Sure, he had an idea. But it probably wouldnt ever hit close to the actual experience. He was still watching the road, making sure they stayed on track. But no matter how attentive he was, he wouldnt have been able to tell that a deer suddenly decided to run past as the light provided a way. His senses made him slam the brakes and turn the wheel, making the car spin on the two wheels on one side. He ended up driving them off the road, scraping the sidedoor against a tree but luckily nothing worse. He was heaving for air as the adrenaline was pumping around his body, his shoulders trembling as he clenched the wheel. He must have bitten his cheek or tongue, because the taste of blood spread in his mouth. "Fuck... You alright?" he asked a little breathless. |

| Where was her heartbeat? Well it had been taken by Cesare that night. And yet sometimes she swore she could still feel it beating in her chest. She opted not to reply to a question that had such an obvious answer, however the next one was far more interesting to her. She hummed a little in thought, "I suppose I did and I didn't," she replied rather honestly. "I knew most of it and Cesare had warned me several times not to pick that path .. he was strange about it .. but I ended up convincing him and I found out what he had warned me about." Sure, her sire could keep telling her I told you so for all of eternity, but she had gotten her wish. Even if it had been a strange way. As the deer popped out, everything happened so fast, even for a vampyre to truly react. She did however manage to pull her arm out in front of Benjamin, just to not let him hit his forehead against the windshield. Gasping softly for air she suddenly smelled the blood on his breath. Removing her arm she got out of the car, scared to breathe near him. "Sorry, uh, blood," she just said, clearly scared because she didn't want to hurt him. In fact she was more afraid of that than anything her father had ever done to her. If he got out of the car and tried to walk closer she would shake her head no and step back. "Please, I don't want to hurt you," she didn't have as much experience around others like this. Normally she had prepared mentally for blood before hand, but this had snuck up on her. Her eyes welled up as she looked down in shame, her shoulders trembling a bit as she wrapped her arms around herself. |

| He did listen to her explain and while he never wanted a path like that for himself, it might help him understand her better and maybe some day find a middle ground where he didnt see her as just the sister he had lost. Though there was still a long way for the human to get there. The crash was unexpected but it wasnt too bad. Sadie saved him from really getting hurt but he still managed to bite himself. She got out the car and he did as well, frowning as she mentioned the blood smell. She said she didnt want to hurt him but he frowned. "Sadie, I cant just leave you here." he protested. It was in the middle of nowhere. Would she walk home? No, he shook his head. "Get in the car please." |

| "Benjamin, I am a monster," she reminded him and herself alike. She couldn't risk it. She just wouldn't ever forgive herself if she ended up hurting the brother she was supposed to protect. "I .. I'm not good with control," she whimpered, keeping her gaze down as tears started to roll from her eyes. She hadn't been good at being a human, and she felt like she wasn't making any progress being a vampyre either. She was a sorry excuse of one anyways. Then she suddenly felt an arm around her, a pair of lips pressing against her hair. "It's quite alright, dear, you won't hurt him," Cesare told her almost affectionately. He didn't even look to Benjamin, not yet anyways because he felt like he was breaking their deal. He hadn't wanted anything like this to happen. And while Sadie had gone against his orders and would have to be dealt with in due time, that wasn't his top priority right now. Sadie was shivering at this point, and it was clear that Cesare had a good grip on her so she wouldn't do something she would come to regret later. "Remind her why she won't hurt you," he finally addressed the human. |
