She started crying and he just nodded a few times like he was approving, biting his teeth together as he looked away and let her cry in peace. When it died down, he looked at her again, feeling his own eyes a little fluid but he wasnt a crybaby. “I wanted to kick that guy’s teeth in. The one in the pool.” He just confessed, picking his cigarette from his mouth as he looked at it, squishing the filter between his fingers. “My parents are shit, but my mom raised me well,” he said, even if that seemed hard to believe with the rumors swarming around him and his heartbreaker status. But he had never done anything to a girl that she hadnt made clear that she was fine with. “Did he tear your shirt?” He asked.

It didnt really feel that good, not like he had always imagined, to open up about himself. Maybe it was because he never had so it was just more scary than anything else. She started speaking about herself and her life, he sat and listened as he looked at her. He however could only imagine that her life had been harder, because while he had it shit, he at least still had a golden spoon in his mouth.
He nodded as she mentioned the lottery, remembering that she had mentioned that. But then she seemed to come clean with something that was far more serious. He blinked a few times as she had finished the story, looking ahead with a distant look in his eyes. “Shit..” he just mumbled and nodded. “And here I’m crying about my parents...” he mumbled like he found himself quite pathetic now.
She spoke again and he looked at her as she asked about his quite obvious commitment issue. “Uhh. Yeah, is the simple answer. But actually. It’s both her and my dad.” He said, feeling a knot in his throat. He looked away, up at the sky again. “So my mom was always quite obviously banging some dude and my dad was never home. But one day he did come home. I was like... barely 14.” He said, frowning a little. “She had brought home her driver and he caught them. He wasnt even angry. She was hysterical, pleading her own case like her life depended on it, but he just didnt care. I heard the whole ordeal, so I went to them and he grabbed me by the arm and dragged me out. He... took me to a strip club and I’ve always looked older because of genes or some shit.” He explained. He swallowed and looked at his hand that he was resting on his stomach. “He told me: A real Trevino never cares about what any bitch does, you hear me? Look at these girls, they’d do anything for fucking money, just like your mom. You’ll learn eventually that they’re good for nothing. And you’re my son, so you better start learning.” He said, picking a little at his shirt before he sighed. Did he have to go on? He didnt really feel like it, because it was just so shitty. “It was the worst day of my life. And not long after, I found out that my girlfriend at that time had been kissing another guy, ironically enough his daddy was richer than mine. So...” he said, just ending it there as he sighed and looked away.

He didnt look at her as she said his name. He was too busy feeling like an idiot for opening up. It didnt feel good at all to say, it only reminded him of how shit it had all been. He noticed her get up and come sit down next to him, but he was a little surprised as she wrapped her duvet around him. He however still sat there, having to deal with the memories in his head that seemingly just went on repeat. He wasnt even that angry at the girl who had cheated on him, it had just been the defining factor that had started it all. Because how could 14-year old Kurtis prove his dad wrong? Now it was just ingrained in him, even if he didnt really think that girls cared about money, it just kept him from sticking to one girl. Her scoff made him frown as he looked at her. He listened to her and then sighed, running his hand through his hair, ruffling it up a little. “Well he’s a dick. When I saw you outside the hospital, I could tell... you really felt something real for Abel,” and probably still do was something he wanted to add but didnt. His hands fiddled a little restless with the duvet. He then looked at her, then looked away as he wet his lips, like he wasnt sure what to say. “I avoided you because I’m still stuck at that night. And it’s fucking stupid because I shouldnt. But I am.” He then admitted, grinding his teeth slightly as it clearly annoyed him a lot.

“Yeah, dense. Are you deaf too?” He just teased her, reacting with an ow! as she pinched him but it wasnt removing the smile from his lips. Her question made him hum but he just looked away and shrugged. “Idiots just smile.” He said rather than answering. Maybe she’d get it at some point, but he wasnt going to make it easy on her.
Her question made him nod as he looked at her. Her confession however made him blink a few times like he couldnt really understand. Or more his male brain was being distracted by the fact that she had just called that night one of the best moments. “Okay, well dont feel bad about Vanessa at all.” He said, looking at her rather seriously. If she would ask why, he’d just look at her for a bit before scoffing and shaking his head. “If you hadnt been through enough guys being dickheads tonight, I’d just get it over with and kiss you now you dumbass.” He said to make it clear.

He looked a little at her lips after he had spoken, letting her think it through for herself. Then her reply came and he chuckled, before he realized that she was actually being serious. He then leaned in to connect their lips a little tenderly. He really wasnt the kind that liked to kiss if he was hooking up but this was different. It was like he felt how soft her lips were and her warm breath on his skin. “Are you going to think I’m going to regret that too?” He asked, lifting his warm hand to cup her face. Her makeup was smeared from her crying but he didnt care that much. “I cant actually wrap my head around that at all. If I really was regretting it, I would have let you know.” He said, carefully rubbing his nose onto hers before leaning back away. “Feeling better?”
