He sat in the kitchen, letting her tend the open wound on his cheek. It was mild considering what he could have gotten but somehow he wasnt really angry about it like he would have been otherwise. He was smiling, chuckling even. “Turns out Romeo have been fucking that Parish guy whose sister attacked you.” He said, chuckling a little as so many things made sense now. He explained a bit further of what he had heard, how he had decided to walk in there just to piss off Lucius even more. “Fuuuck. I felt so cool walking in like I didnt give a shit.” He said with a sigh of relief to then grit his teeth and whimper as she hit a tender spot. “Ow.”

Her addition wasnt much of a relief when he thought about all the stress. She caught his attention rather quick with her listen and he looked at her with a bit of hurt in his eyes. It wasnt like he didnt miss it too! He felt robbed as well, of the times they could have had not worrying about his psycho family. But he felt at fault, because he had let her go before she could get too involved, and the more shit they went through, the more the thoughts of should have left it at that came to mind in different variations. “I keep thinking about that first party. When I taught you how to swim, when you fucked my brains out on your mother’s couch. How all I worried about then was how the fuck I could tell you that I liked you.” He said but then he looked down at the chicken and drew in a deep breath. “But we’re not kids anymore. I’m going to be 17 in december. That’s almost adult.” He said with a sigh. “And Lucius only pushed us over the edge.” He said but then he frowned. It wasnt all bad. “But we also get to live together, be together and spend every day together.” He said with a small frown. It was also important to consider.

“Yeah, do you.” He scoffed. He just liked whenever she said the damndest things, it made something in his mind tickle with delight. But then she looked confused and her backtrack made him sigh. “I’m a solstice kid. The 25th.” He said, not really knowing where she was heading with her questions. Why did his birthday matter all of a sudden? “Why? Are you older than me or some shit?”

She was six days older than him? He frowned as it dawned upon him. Her playing coy didnt help one bit as he furrowed his brows at her. He sat down at the kitchen island, hearing her tease but remaining quiet for a bit. He was clearly thinking of what to say. “It does make me worry…” he admitted a little seriously, scooping a spoonful of the chicken pasta salad out on his plate. “… I dont know whether to take you out on a date or to the nearest nursing home.” He then said as he began chuckling, thinking he was well funny saying that.

“Careful!” He warned her, grabbing her wrist as she hit him with roll of paper towels. “Your old bones can break so easily.” He teased her further, releasing his grip on her wrist. She spoke of Solstice and he drew in a deep breath. “Yeah. I dont really celebrate it.” He said with a shrug. He had as a kid but as he grew to dislike his family, he had been signed off from having to celebrate it with them. He was rather focused on eating but it wasnt like her portions getting smaller just went past him. But he also wasnt that stupid, that he hadnt realized she needed something else to eat now.
“Does she like doing what rich people do?” He asked because he wasnt so sure. He then scratched his temple thoughtfully. “Why not a mom-daughter trip to a spa or something girly.” He said, looking down at his plate. Her mother would probably want to spend her time with her daughter over some trip over the atlantic.

She was holding something back and Kurtis stopped eating as he looked at her. She wasnt troublesome, where was she getting those sudden thoughts from? “It takes time..” he muttered as she rubbed her face, her outburst however made him blink a few times. He sat for a bit before he put down his fork and sighed. “Well you know what princess?” He said, looking at her seriously. “This is how our lives are now. There’s no fucking way back. So stop looking back when you should be looking ahead.” He said, lifting a hand to ruffle up his hair a little. “You dont want to be a burden? Then put in the work. Spend time with her, let her get to know you!” He said, leaning in while he spoke so they were face to face. “Just dont hide here and then get frustrated that things are never changing.” okay that one was a little harsh. “Sorry…”

She got up and he felt like the world’s worst piece of shit for what he had said. He got up as well as she began speaking of going out. “Zaira, I’m sorry.” He said, having followed her to the hallway. They didnt even need eggs! At least not at this hour. He reached out, grabbing her sleeve. “Dont just go!” He almost pleaded but as the ass that he was, it did come out as aggressive.

Join her on her walk? Sure. That he could go. He grabbed his jacket and got into his shoes and out they went. He had started having their key in a long keychain that just looked like one of the regular chains he wore, except it seemed to end in his pocket. They got outside and he shivered a bit from the cold. “Geez. It’s definitely winter soon.” He said with a sigh. She was however silent and he bit the inside of how cheek. Reaching over he took her hand. “At least hold my hand if you’re going to be quiet kid right now. Your hands are nice and warm.”
