Stay out of it

He hoped she would like the spot, humming as she called it beautiful. It really was. Though he more so liked it because it was a way for him to put everything in perspective. However saying that out loud might come out wrong, so he kept it for himself. He had noticed her legs were a bit shaky, so perhaps it was a good thing that he hadn't planned a hike for them. Besides that, he liked it when she leaned on him, not that he would admit to it right now.
The question made him hum, cracking open the can he had taking a sip, "I think this bike I've had for like .. 4 years now?" thinking it through just to make sure before he nodded. "I've always really liked bikes and the freedom of just getting on it and never looking back." A bit sappy for him to admit, but oh well, they were on a date. He leaned back on his free hand, looking out at the view they had from up here. Placing his can down, he grabbed the spare blanket, placing it over their legs to keep them warm. "Do you know how to ride?" he asked, curious because it didn't seem so, but you never really knew.

"Yeah, but this one is way better and actually starts everytime," he chuckled softly. Her admitting that it had been her first time made him more impressed if anything, nodding and smiling as she was close to him right now.
Her question however made him frown, considering what he wanted to tell her. He could lie, but that felt weird even to consider. "Goons being goons," he just said with a small shrug. Was that too vague? She could be the judge of that. However he knew she wouldn't be too satisfied. "Starting Monday I'm back to checking in at your store," he said, leaning his head against hers. Was it weird that he kinda liked that?

She was asking him directly now about the goon, and he frowned, but he didn't feel guilty. The guy had deserved worse, but he had held back. "I did," he confessed. This was where she would start to fear him, right? Fuck, he had been so stupid to think that she wouldn't feel scared. Her admittance made him feel worse. Because that was the last thing he wanted to do. Moving a bit he sat up, folding his hands in his lap. "He deserved it .. I went easy on him," he confessed. If she was breaking this off right now he would understand, but he would also feel terribly frustrated from it. He scoffed softly, "and I don't regret it," he said, turning to look at Emily. Was she scared of him now? Was she angry with him? "I did it for you."

Had he been expecting her to react this way? Not really. Maybe it would've been more normal if she got up and ran away screaming. Gritting his teeth he moved his eyes off of her as she spoke so logical about it. "I don't have a clear answer for you," he said, frowning as he looked at the view. Was it really so wrong of him to treat her differently? She had shown herself to him, cared for him even when he knew he didn't deserve it. "I'm not a good person, Emily," he said, and it came from a place of honesty. He looked down, his knuckles still a bit bruised from having taken out his anger on that brute. "But that idiot deserved everything and more from what he did to you, so don't feel sorry for him," he confessed, his hand tensing up a bit, still feeling the anger he had released on the goon. "I could've taken both his eyes simply for staring at you .. but the hand was an order from higher up," he went on, frowning as he had been the one to think of it, "turns out he had been pocketing some of the collection money "
But would she even believe him? He turned his head, looking at Emily with calm eyes. The only regret he had was letting that asshole close to her. "You're dating a brute, someone who hurt others for money; a scoundrel that only looks out for himself," he said, his voice cold, but he believed everything he said to be true. If she let him, he reached out, touching her cheek gently, searching her eyes. "But I don't feel like that monster when I'm with you."

She agreed with him? He wasnt quite sure how to react to that, but as soon as she reached for his lip he had to grit his teeth a little. It still stung to some degree, though it was healing alright. Her question made his eyes soften up, because he wondered why she would think that. But the reality of it was that he couldn't be sure. "Hurt you like I hurt that idiot? No," he said, but he also felt like he needed to be real with her. "But I can't promise you I'll never hurt you .. Cause I might say the wrong thing or grip you too hard .. But I don't want to ever hurt you, alright?"

Her fingers were so soft, beckoning him to open his mouth and relax his lips, so he did. He felt almost spellbound by her, watching as she asked him a question that made a soft chuckle escape the lips she was touching. She let go of him, looking out at the view he wrapped his arm around her, pulling her to lay down next to him, holding her close as he had done in her bed. "Is this your way of asking for my number?" He teased, though he also wanted to know for sure. He pulled away, just to be able to look at her face. "I really liked it," he finally admitted, smiling at her and being genuine, no teasing. "And you liked it too .. Cause when I was about to leave you pleaded with me to come back soon."

Alright, she could have his number. At least the one for his private phone. The slap on his chest made him laugh heartily, loving how she just could turn like that. "Well you were happy to see me come early, didn't you?" Raising an eyebrow at her as pure tease, because even if he had been blind he would've been able to know. She was pretty easy for him to read.
Her question made him shrug, "work," he admitted, but did she really want to hear about that? "Though I had a real hard time not daydreaming about this really cute girl who was one step away from begging me to stay with her that morning, so," he smiled, knowing he sounded sappy.

Yeah he didn't like Dave, but he also felt like it didn't have to be a secret. The guy could never measure to be any competition, however he had upset Emily, even if she had had her back turned, it was easy for Rhys to sense at this point.
As she poked his chest he feinted being hurt, but his expression quickly turned more playful as she teased him back. "Well even the meanest man has to sleep .. Besides it felt really good to have you close; Just like how it feels right now," he wasn't afraid to state the obvious. His heart had a weird beat to it, but it was picking up pace whenever she was around. It simply wasn't something he could just ignore. "And to be honest if I hadn't made that promise to you, I would've kissed you goodbye that morning."

Nodding to say that he did feel really good right now. It was almost cutesy how they were laying right now. As she said she would've slapped him in her sleep he smiled, humming as he seemed to agree. "Would've served me right," he muttered, his hand moving up and down her back, just to sort of keep her warm, but also to have a nice excuse as to keep touching her. "Perhaps, who knows, I might be into that kind of thing," chuckling as he was clearly teasing. No, he liked a bit of spice, but he couldn't think of a time where he had wanted someone to hit him. "Is it because you don't trust me?" he asked, in regards to why they hadn't kissed yet, "or do I just have really bad breath and you're not telling me to be polite?"

He did take note of the whole wording of second chances, but she went on rather fast with her words and frankly he was more interested in hearing what she wanted. He hummed, frowning as he looked down, even if she was cupping his face. "I get that," he said. He could've pulled out another tease about him not being romantic, but of course he wasn't. And with it he sort of second guessed his own appeal to her, but he let those thoughts crumble away as he returned his gaze to meet her eyes. "I guess that means I gotta work harder, huh?" he smiled, not beaten down by her words. In fact he was happy that she even told him. "I don't mind a challenge."

"Well it doesn't mean I can just be lazy about it .. Someone might swoop in and ruin it if I don't give it my all," he pondered, though he wasn't too worried about competition. He had a feeling that she genuinely liked him, and he really liked her too.
They moved to sit up more, looking out at the city lights he smiled at her question. He pointed out a few things you could see from up here, but the main thing that lit up was perhaps Western District with its many nightclubs and bars. However from here you could only hear the bass of music if the wind carried it here. Today it was more silent. "I live in Western; Small shitty apartment, but I'm only there to sleep anyways," he shrugged, clearly unbothered by that fact. He hadn't ever really felt the need for a home, as long as he could get some decent sleep then it was fine.

He chuckled, shrugging, "I don't sleep all that much to begin with," being the hybrid he was meant he didn't have to sleep as much as other mortals to feel rested. Though that didn't mean he couldn't sleep more if he wanted to. "Though your part of the town is way more quiet than I thought," he thought out loud, tilting his head a little to the side as he just kept his eyes on the lights emitting from the town.
He still had his arm around her, holding her close as they just sat for a while in silence. "If I were to take you out to eat .. What would you prefer?" he asked, because he wasn't sure what she could or couldn't eat. "I mean, you mentioned being allergic to sugar, so I'm guessing I'd have to be smart about this," he shrugged.
