The men kept their distance, some of them feeling saddened too. One thing was a mission failing. But like this? Seeing Rhys hold the body of a dead girl, touching her like she was his everything? It woke something in everyone. They were all one big family after all. Even if many of them feared Rhys beyond imagination. Some of them hoped that she would move. That she wasnt gone. And yet she laid so lifeless in his arms.
Back at the safehouse the nurse insisted. Even if he was in mourning, Emily deserved to be prepared properly. It was fine that he left. She wouldnt have wanted him looming over her, making sure she did everything perfectly. Elaine just sat, petting one of the dogs before someone entered. Looking up to see Rhys, she recognized him better now. She got up on her knees and moved closer, grabbing onto the bars, looking up at him with a sweet look in her eyes. She couldnt talk for obvious reasons but she didnt really have to, did she?

Rhys broke the lock on the cage, grabbing Elaine and pulling her out. His eyes were hazed over, sadness buried deep within as he removed her gag. He was alone. All alone. Emily was gone and he had failed to keep her safe. Placing a hand on Elaine's hip, he pushed her up against the wall, their bodies standing close as his breath hiccupped. He couldn't even cry. He looked down at her, his eyes wishing that it was Emily he was holding this close. The only thing he had ever wanted was Emily, her soft hands touching his skin, her lips against his own, but the world had robbed her from him.
However soon enough his eyes turned hard and cold. His fingers digging in to Elaine's flesh, not caring if his nails punctured her skin. "Because of you," his voice deep, his eyes turning darker as he stood here, refusing to let her go even if she started to scream or cry, "she's dead."

She watched as he broke the lock, following his pull as she was freed from the horrible dog cage. The gag was removed and she looked at him with rather caring eyes. He was so easy to care about when he was high, she at least believed that. She gasped as he grabbed and pushed her, feeling the fear that he made her feel make her almost hazy. That was until he began clenching around her hip, making her whimper as she heard his accusation. Tears formed in her eyes from the pain and she looked at him. The notion that Emily was gone made her happy but she kept that to herself. “I already told you that it would only ever be me and you. You didnt listen.” She hissed, gritting her teeth from the pain and yet the endorphins from the fear she felt was numbing it. “No one could ever be fit to stay with you.. Because you’re a monster. In one way or another.” - “Em..ily… Didnt die because of what I said. But because she was yours, when she wasnt supposed to.”

Rhys felt his breath heaving, but as she spoke her name his free hand grasped around her neck. Oh, it would be so easy just to snuff out her life. One good grip and she would either lose the oxygen or her neck would snap. It would be fun to see what came first. He wasn't letting her go, leaning down to be mere inches from her face. "You're right," he said, tightening his grip, "I am a monster." He squeezed harder, watching her with cold and empty eyes, waiting patiently as he was strangling her. He wasn't in a hurry, oh no, he wanted her to suffer and panic. He wanted her to perish, to be deleted from his world, his mind. "She was mine .. And I was hers .. Nothing has changed, except you'll be dead soon."

She did wonder how this random girl could have such a strong hold on him, even after she died. The hand around her neck didnt bother her too much until he began squeezing. He agreed with her and began tightening his grip, making her struggle and choke, grabbing around his wrist, his arm, trying to push him. But nothing worked. She could feel her face turn red with warm blood as the circulation was cut too by his iron grip. She really thought she was going to die. She did pass out eventually but then the nurse screamed and caught everyone’s attention. Though when they ran to the room, the nurse sat with a hole on her neck like someone had taken quite a bite. Emily was gone.

But it wasnt like she was far gone. She didnt know this place. She was in a panic, some remaining from when she had submerged and the general sense that the deja vu had driven her a little from her senses. Biting the nurse had mostly been for defending herself. Once the nurse had gotten most of the water out of her, she had started to wake up again. But what if she was still with the horrible people? She hid in closets, listening as people ran by. Though a vampyre walked past to catch the scent of blood, but he couldnt directly connect it to the closet.

She started to go limb, and Rhys wouldn't say he felt better. The drugs he had taken were slowly wearing off, and his arms started to shake from the pain he was starting to feel in his chest once more. No, he had to do this. He had to be the monster to survive this pain. However the scream caught him off guard, releasing Elaine to let her drop to the floor. Stumbling out of the kennels he headed back to the preparation room, looking around and seeing Emily's body was missing. The nurse was on the floor, and in his disoriented state he couldn't understand what was going on.
The nurse was in shock, and rightfully so. Men scattered, searching high and low for the missing body but Rhys seemed to be at a loss. He went down the hallway, scratching his scalp, trying to calm himself. Trying to remind himself that whoever had taken her would meet a worse fate. Stopping in the middle of a corridor he looked down, seeing blood droplets on the floor. His mind might've been a bit hazy, but he knew how to follow fresh blood.

She felt at a loss in the closet but it was also a good time for her to calm down. So decided to sit down and wrap her arms around her legs. She whispered quietly to herself, just trying to soothe the panic that was roaming freely inside her. She could hear the steps come and go, holding her breath everytime she thought the steps got too close for comfort. She couldnt hear what people were saying to each other as they passed by but she also didnt want to. She just wanted to go home. And having tasted the nurse’s blood, she could feel her hunger quite strong. She needed more. She felt restless and hungry and scared. Then there were steps coming closer, and she realized it wasnt just someone passing. She hid her face away as the door opened, her shoulders trembling before she carefully looked up when she wasnt grabbed right away. The fresh blood was trickling down the side of her mouth and she looked rather lost.

He wasn't sure what drove him. Perhaps the fact that he wasn't giving up on Emily even in her death or maybe it was the after effects of the drugs he had taken. He stopped as he reached a closet, blood was smeared on the handle and he opened it carefully. As the face was revealed he sank to his knees, staring at her in disbelief because this had to be some cruel trick from his unconsciousness. Perhaps it was a bad high? She was dead. She had been lifeless in his arms and not responded to anything he had done. He had lost her and it was his fault! Had she come back to haunt him? Burden him with the knowledge that he was never going to find anyone who cared for him?
"I'm sorry," he whispered, tears running down his cheeks as he was repenting for what he had been the reason to. "I tried .. I tried to save you .. I did everything I could," pleading softly with whom he thought was the ghost of his dead girlfriend.

It was Rhys. Her eyes softened up and tears began to build. She was safe and away from it all. Though her body might need a moment to truly come to terms with no dangers looming around. He began apologizing and she frowned. How long had she been gone for? His plea confused her. Was she not safe here? Her shoulders still trembled, and she just sat there silently staring at him. She felt a droplet of blood roll down her neck and then she became aware of what she had done. Her expression changed to surprise and she then shook her head. She had bitten someone! She could barely believe it. And she didnt want him to know. So she moved, pushing him down just so she could move past him and towards an exit. The hunger was getting to her head with everything else just adding to that.

Rhys was crying, pleading with her, but she pushed past him and he had to scramble to his feet. Following her he caught up to her once they were outside, grabbing on to her hand. He could feel her. "Am I dead?" he asked. Perhaps he had been so lucky that the drugs had finally killed him. Maybe he was with Emily in the afterlife. He barely realized the blood on her as he lifted a hand to caress her cheek. Had he truly died then he couldn't imagine why he was so lucky to see her. "Please don't run," he begged, though he couldn't even force her to stay. He felt so weak without her, so angry and confused. "Stay with me."

She felt his hand around hers and it stopped her for now. She felt tears run down her face, his question making her feel so sad. “You’re not.” She whispered, turning to look at him. He touched her face and she looked at him with hurt in her eyes. He begged her not to run and stay. Stay here? She looked down with a frown before she pulled at her hand to have him let go. She stepped closer, looking away as she pushed her hands under his arms to wrap around his body. She held him close, breathing him in before she felt her jaw tremble. The temptation got the best of her and carefully she wiggled her face into the nape of his neck, drawing in his scent almost cute in a sense by the way she moved. Only that she had other unknown intentions at this point. Then she bit him and latched on; hard.

He wasn't dead? Then how come she was alive? She released herself and for a fleeting second he felt panic through his body, that she would leave him now. However as she wrapped her arms around him and pulled him closer he did the same. His shoulders trembling, he wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry before he felt her teeth pierce his flesh. Stunned, he just groaned softly, but he held on to her still. Pain was a part of his life, but he wasn't sure he had ever felt like this before. "It's alright," he cooed her, his vision blurring slightly from the blood loss. He didn't want to scare her, he just wanted her close and yet the pain was hard to ignore, "I'm here for you." It was all words he wished people told him when he lost control.

It felt better this way, to just give in to what her body seemed to crave. Her arms around him tightened, but the fact was that she was still as weak as a human, maybe a little stronger because she could use her body’s full potential without hurting. But she was no way stronger than him or able to squeeze him. He coeed her and she listened while she took his blood. She would need flesh too but he seemed to be too tough for her to just chomp and rip apart; which was maybe for the best seeing that she would have. Eventually she came back to her senses, realizing what she was doing to him. Stunned and surprised she lifted her head to then place a hand over the wound. “Oh no…” she muttered, feeling her eyes well up. “Rhys I’m sorry.” She whispered, feeling quite horrible. A couple of goons that had been searching came out to see them, calling for a medic.

The medic brought them both inside, one tending to Rhys’ neck while the other was inspecting Emily with nothing but confusion. “How are you alive?” She muttered, deciding to run a blood test, though Emily covered her arm. “I’m not some lab rat.” She said, frowning at the lady before looking down. She didnt really dare to look at him. She felt shameful.

Rhys was placed on a chair, but it was like he could barely understand what was going on. He was bleeding quite a lot, and yet it seemed he didn't care. All he did was look at Emily, seeing her talk and move. His mind hadn't truly caught up to what was going on yet, his eyes still having that hazy look to it. One of the other nurses was checking his eyes out, "what did you take?" she asked him and that seemed to wake him up, looking away in shame, "alright then." That was answers enough.
"You're still hungry," Rhys said, looking to Emily, because he knew her. Or at least he thought he had. "Give her whatever she asks for," he ordered, the nurse starting to stitch up the bite that Emily had left behind.

She did hear the nurse ask Rhys something that was a little.. odd. But she didnt think of it for now. Maybe it was for the pain or something, she at least quickly excused it and let her own shame take over. As he said that she was still hungry, he wasnt wrong. But she wouldnt say it. “No.” She just said as he made his order, shaking her head though she still looked down. She would not just go ahead and complicate things further for herself, even if that was in all actuality was she was doing right in this moment. She clenched her hands. “I’m not hungry.” She protested quietly. Or maybe she was trying to convince herself that.

"You are hungry," he said, gesturing down to where his neck was being stitched up, "I don't care what you eat, as long as you eat." Because what was the alternative? That she continued to bite people? That wouldn't help with morale around here at all. "Paul," he said, looking to one of the goons who looked almost scared, but he was ready to take orders, "take Emily with you .. Get her what she needs; I know you won't say anything." Paul could've laughed at that, but now wasn't the time. He just hummed, walking over to stand by Emily. He didn't speak, gesturing for her to get up and follow. "Trust him, Emily, you need this," Rhys said, gritting his teeth as the nurse poked the needle through his torn skin.

She didnt have to look at him directly to know where he was gesturing to. But she still felt shameful. Was this was she was now? A ghoul on food strike because she had bit someone she cared about? The goon was called and she glanced in his direction. She didnt like this. Not because of Rhys or Paul or anyone else than herself. She had lost control. And that was a tough pill to swallow. She got up a little reluctantly, her wrists still having dark spots from the ziptie she had fought and lost to. She looked sad and contemplating like she wanted to say something but instead she followed Paul out.

A goon entered after a while, frowning lightly. “Boss. The girl in the kennel is still alive. What do you want us to do with her?”

Rhys grit his teeth, hating that he had to do this, but he also couldn't justify the fact that she would sit here in pain. He knew what it was like to be hungry and lose control. After they had left, another stepped in and the hybrid felt the shame rise in her. "Place her in one of our rooms .. Make sure she's taken care of," that could mean a lot of things, but in the way Rhys spoke it was clear he didn't even care what the goon did, as long as she was kept away from him. He couldn't trust himself when he was still fighting the drugs in his system. Any feelings he might've had for Elaine was gone, snuffed out when he had held Emily's lifeless body.

Elaine was taken care of, though no one was really sure what to do with her. They knew she used to the Rhys’ girl to some extent. No one wanted to piss him off. So she was just left alone, ignored for the most part.

Emily had eventually snuck out of Paul’s sight rather than ever letting him help her get food. She knew it was a bad idea but she was also in a bit of a tough spot with how she believed everyone percieved her now. They knew she had died just to come back! She went back to her apartment, grabbing the extra key before going inside. The cat had scratched up all her pillows, the duvet and gnawed on all available wires. She sighed, going out into the kitchen to get a can that she gave to it. Closing the door she went to the drawer she kept her food in, opening it to pull out one of the closely sealed containers. Opening the window, she turned and sat on the desk, eating in peace while the world just seemed to move on. It had been too crazy, everything that had happened. She cleaned the container once she was done eating, deciding to have another one just for good measure.
She then just went to bed, leaving out an extra can for the cat. She slept in the broken pillows and blanket, unsure how long she even slept. It had been a lot happening at once, and whenever her minded wandered to the moment of being taken away and that whole ordeal, she had bad tremors and typically woke in a slight panic. Just to realize that she was back home again. She fell back asleep and slept for many hours.

As the weeks passed, one thing was for sure, Emily was being watched. Sure, they weren't inside of her apartment, but if she kept her wits up she could perhaps recognise some of the goons that took turns being parked outside her apartment complex.
Mary had started coming by, not looking the best, but the sorrow of her father kept her from sleeping much. She had stopped by, sitting down in her kitchen, the cat hissing lightly at her, but was curious enough to stay close by in case something was dropped on the floor. She slid a small piece of paper over with a picture of her father on the front. "I know .. I know you might want to stay away, and I don't blame you .. But I know he would've wanted you there for a final goodbye," she said, taking another sip of her coffee. It had taken quite a while for her to even get her father's ashes, and she wanted to have a small memorial where they buried his ashes. "You don't have to bring flowers or anything, it'll just be a small gathering of those he cared for."

Was it odd not hearing from Rhys? Most definitely. But if Emily had to be honest, she was still in the midst of processing everything in such a degree that the days just went by. Though she wasnt blind as to not notice that she was being watched. She just chose not to think of it too much. Thinking of other things instead. It was nice when Mary came by. Emily liked her company, even if it was scarce. She looked at the paper as it was slid over. “No, it’s okay. He meant a lot to me too. I’ll show up.” She told her, picking up the paper to note down the time and place. She then went quiet for a bit, humming as Mary assured it was enough to just show up. “I just.. I find it hard to even believe at this point. Like it’s some kind of sick prank that just doesnt end.” She admitted, looking at the cat that was now wandering around under the table to look for goodies. “You’re staying with your girlfriend right? You’re not alone when you’re not here?”

Mary nodded, pulling up in a sad smile as it meant a lot that she would be there. They hadn't known each other for a long time, but she felt like they had grown good friends. Looking down in to her mug as Emily spoke of the surreal feeling she nodded, "yeah, I swear I sometimes go to bed at night thinking he'll wake me up the next day, saying I'm late for work," she chuckled, though it wasn't really a happy one. It was more as if she was trying to remind herself of all the good things, but it wasn't reaching her mind fully.
Taking another sip of her coffee she nodded softly at her question, "yeah, I'm crashing at her place .. she's happy to have me, despite the circumstances." It was painfully clear that Mary had a lot of regrets to that. All the what ifs that filled her brain. She had never managed to come out to her father, he hadn't ever met her girlfriend. She shook her head, trying to stay out of that mindset. "I can't stay in Churchill for long .. As soon as the insurance goes through, I'll pay what he owes, and get the he'll out of here."

Emily hummed and sighed. What made it even worse was that there wasnt even a building anymore. Nothing to come back to. She crossed her arms at the thought and shuddered lightly. The question was genuine enough. She didnt want Mary to be out there on her own with all this sorrow. Emily found it hard enough as someone who wasnt Mortimer's own flesh and blood. "Hey.." - "He would have loved to see you happy with someone. From the time I knew him, it was always about you and your happiness." she said, like she wanted to assure her. That was what mattered right?
She almost expected that Mary would leave Churchill after this. But it was surprising that she was going to do it after paying off her father's debt. "Yeah... That is probably for the best. Is she coming with you?" she asked, just to direct the focus a little. Mary had a future out there with someone by her side.

Mary tried to smile, but that part was still hard to do in her grieving process. Someday, she reminded herself, she would be able to smile again and be at peace. But peace wouldn't come without a price. "Yeah, she got a scholarship to an university in America," it was a safe place to go, somewhere she could be rid of all the gangs of Churchill. Besides no-one was going to follow her that far for mere pennies. "I'll probably get a job and work my way up," Mary had wanted to study too, but financially it wouldn't be possible. Not that she was complaining, she would be living a new life with a girl she was crazy about. Looking down to the cat she reached her fingers down only to be swatted away. At least that made her smile a little bit more genuine.
"So, I'll see you Friday, yeah?" she asked, getting up to place her mug in the sink. She had to get going as there were still so many things she needed to handle on her own. She bid Emily goodbye, saying that she hoped they could see each other, besides the funeral, one more time before she left the country for good.

"That's at least far away." Emily said with a nod. When she had decided to start her new life here, it had mostly been because of how dependent she had been of the clergy that had nursed her back. Otherwise she would have gone far away too, most probably. "It's a good start to say the least. You're also so young, so you've got time on your side." she shrugged. She noticed how Mary tried to interact with the cat who just was as grumpy and rude as ever. It made Emily scoff. "Yeah, I'll see you then." she said before she got up to follow her out. "Do you have a good suggestion for a name for a mean cat?" she asked, pulling a small smile, though she was quite serious. She hadnt been able to come up with a name. "I feel bad for not having given him a name yet." she said as Mary got ready. Bidding her farewell she followed her out to the street, waving her off before heading back. "I noticed that you're a stinky cat. So it's time for a bath. Yeah you heard me right. Bath." she warned the cat, having noticed that he could recognize certain words. She went on to prepare to spend her night bathing the mean angry cat.
