Life is strange indeed

Abel woke up soon after. It was just like once his eyes had registered light, he couldnt go back to sleep. He got up from the floor and went to the kitchen, frowning a little surprised as he saw the human stand there and cook. “Goodmorning.” He said, narrowing his eyes slightly as he was trying to figure out if she was doing better. He had seen people act like they did well until they eventually collapsed. It was like a silence before the storm. “Ho-how’re you f-feeling?”

“I think that’s a good t-thing.” Abel said with a small smile. It wouldnt have been good if she was feeling well. That would definitely mean that things werent getting better. But if she felt shit that had to mean that her wounds were healing. “I-I’m not j-judging, just t-tell me if y-you need help.” He said with a small smile. Her question made him hun as he went to peel it off. Though when he saw it, he widened his eyes a bit. “Z-Zaira. It’s i-infected.” He told her. This was not good at all. “D-Damiano!” He called in a lowered tone to not wake up the rest, though it was urgent to get some more eyes on the infected wound.

Damiano came and looked as well and Abel was just deep in thought. Though there was really only one thing that they could choose to do. She had to see a doctor, a real one. Kurtis would be furious but he would either way so what would one earful do? Abel looked at Damiano. “I’ll dress it, b-but call a cab. We’re taking this t-to the hospital.” He said. But then they heard sudden scrambling and that only meant that Kurtis had woken up to Zaira not being by his side. “S-she has to go.” He said, looking at Damiano. Abel wasnt a match to Kurtis if he was going to fight them on this and he had been since they arrived.

Abel knew he had to work fast and so he did. He woke up Jeremy as well just to make sure someone was there to keep the lycan and hybrid in check. Kurtis was already angry but as Damiano came in, he did feel a slight bit more calm. It however didnt change his worry. “Why is she not in here?” He asked with his teeth grit. Even if Damiano was calming him down from a distance, Kurtis was just generally hard to calm. It took time for him to snap out of his anger. “You let him smoke?” Kurtis asked with a small frown but then he heard the front door open. “What’s going on?” He asked, stepping towards the hybrid.

Kurtis didnt see it as something for her own good. He didnt trust doctors, nurses or any of them. Not after what had happened to him. “Move!” He demanded, gritting his teeth at the hybrid. There was no reason to fight but Kurtis wouldnt hesitate. The mutter didnt make him react, he heard the car drive off as well. The warning made Kurtis widen his eyes before he pushed the hybrid out of the way, heading towards the front door to leave, but then he felt someone grab his arm. It made him lunge out with a closed fist by instinct, not realizing that he ended up striking Jeremy, making the nephilim stumble back and fall. Kurtis just stared at him as he realized. Damiano would have been able to handle the hit but Jeremy wasnt as strong.

Jeremy hadnt even seen it coming but Kurtis knocked him out pretty bad. The lycan was even surprised at what he had done, but he didnt blane Damiano for what happened next. Kurtis did fight back but this time he felt less in control of himself. He was pinned down by the hybrid and his words made Kurtis rather visibly upset as well as the hybrid would be able to feel the amount of hurt he felt from having to think about what they have gone through. “I cant trust anyone as long as my dad and my cousin are around! You dont fucking get how scary it is to not know what they would do!” He just yelled. That was when the door opened from the outside and steps approached them. Kurtis looked and frowned as he recognized her. “Mom?” - “Kurtis, what’s going on?” She asked before she looked at the hybrid over him.

Kurtis completely forgot that he was fighting someone when his mother arrived. Unannounced at that. “We should talk.” She said, gesturing for Kurtis to follow. He frowned, but went with her anyway. This usually meant that she wanted something. Some information, or just to feel needed as the mother she only liked to pretend to be.

When he came to his senses, he felt like someone had swung a bag of bricks right on his head. “Ow…” he mumbled, lifting a hand to feel a pretty swollen lump on the side of his head. Luckily it wasnt that visible. He looked to Damiano but it felt like he was seeing double for a bit. “What happened?” He asked, reaching out to touch the hybrid.

He felt the hybrid’s hand around his and it calmed him down as he sat and slowly came to his senses. The notion that he had taken a hit for Damiano made him scoff as he sighed. “Well I’m glad you didnt get it then. It hurts.” He said with a faint smile, though he grit his teeth as his head felt like it was pounding. 
He was caught up on everything that had happened and he leaned back, looking towards the balcony door. “So weird that she shows up out of nowhere.” He mumbled before he got up and went out. He was a little wobbly on his legs but also determined to get out the door. He leaned against the railing looking down to see Kurtis stand with his mother, them talking but him not able to hear them. Kurtis looked up anyway and if he saw Damiano next to Jeremy he looked at his mother and opted for them to go somewhere else.

“.. Dont pretend like you suddenly give a shit.” Kurtis hissed at his mom that reached out and grabbed her son’s arm. “You dont understand the things I had to go through to keep you safe.” She protested but Kurtis wasnt having it, shaking free from her grip. “Shut the fuck up about that. You tell me all kind of shit and I dont know whether to believe you or not. First I’m not his son now I am, make up your fucking mind.” The young lycan said, clearly annoyed and frustrated. Alexis sighed. “I know about the case you’re building against your father. And Kurtis, it’s not worth it. You have such a good chance at life like this. If it is confirmed that you’re not really his son, you lose everything. Your education, your future.” She said, Kurtis remaining quiet. “You watched him beat the crap out of me for years and now you suddenly fucking decide to think of what’s good for me. Fucking pathetic.” Kurtis cursed, looking away from her. He couldnt believe this shit. And he was too tired to even yell and be angry.
“What are they saying?” Jeremy asked in a lowered tone, looking at Damiano as he could see he was listening.

“Okay.” Jeremy said, glancing down at Kurtis and his mother. He sighed at the kiss and hummed at the question. “Yeah I’ll stay.” He said, wrapping his arms a bit around the hybrid. “Keep me updated.” He said with a serious look in his eyes. If Zaira was fighting an infection he wanted to know if she was getting better or worse, it didnt matter which. Kurtis heard the hybrid and went quiet, though his mother crossed her arms as she looked at him. “Dont do this Kurtis. At least think about it. I know you’re a smart kid.” She said, not caring that Damiano walked past them. For all she knew, Kurtis had told all his friends about how he couldnt wait to be free from his father. “Go home Alexis. I’m done with this half assed parenting whenever you want to feel some sort of importance.” He hissed at his mother before he went back up into the apartment. Alexis frowned before she looked towards the hybrid heading down the street. “Hey kid! What’s your name?” She called to him, frowning a little. He had been the one holding Kurtis down on the stairs, she remembered him.

He made it clear that he was in a hurry but it wasnt like she really gave a shit. It wasnt surprising where Kurtis had really gotten his impatience from. The explanation made her shake her head. It didnt matter what they had been doing, that wasnt why she approached him. Though as Damiano said he deserved better, she frowned, reaching over to stop him. She held onto his arm, looking at him like she was trying to decide what to say. “No you’re right. He does deserve better.” She finally agreed, letting go of the hybrid to let him leave. 

Abel had explained the situation to a doctor and Zaira and him had been shown to a waiting room. The clergy was holding her hand, just watching her as he was afraid it couldnt go fast enough. Why were they busy right now anyway? Werent they supposed to always be helpful? Didnt Zaira look sick enough? He thought so and he had almost stared himself blind on watching her. “Do you need anything? Water?”

Abel went to get her some water, albeit he did feel reluctant to just leave her. Not when she wasnt doing well at all. He came back just to see the nurse tend to Zaira, frowning in worry as he nodded at the question. “Yeah, I-I’m with her.” He said. They were helped into a room and Abel felt a little less worried now that it had come to someone’s attention that things were quite serious. He helped Zaira drink some water. “You j-just need t-to stay awake.” He said to the human, giving her shoulder a careful squeeze.
