An escort? He frowned a little. It seemed like a risky approach and he wasnt sure if it felt too hasty. She explained further and he just breathed out deeply, shrugging lightly. “I dont know how that shit works. Maybe Dove knows more.” He said, knowing that Dove did what she did to gain favours. A part of him didnt want to think that it could be that it was exactly what she was doing with Eugene, but he wasnt one to judge, not really at least.
“If all else goes wrong, just be your natural self. You’re not all knuckles and rage.” He said with a scoff. Sure, she could be a hothead with a bad temper, but it wasnt just that. Though the thought of her having to flirt, was not something Victor enjoyed. He could only push the feeling away as it was new and yet to happen, and because he had to. “I’ll see how the love doves are doing.” He said to get his mind on something else, going up into Eugene’s room. Dove was just sitting by his side, cleaning his face with a wet cloth. “I dont understand what has happened.” She mumbled, knowing Victor had entered. “And I dont know if he’s getting better or worse…”

"From what I've heard it's a bit different, but then again it's still selling your body in a way," she said with a small shrug. She wasn't too nervous about it, besides she could hold her end of a fight pretty well. As he told her to just be herself she scoffed back, shrugging as she felt all she had been was knuckles and rage for so long. Maybe he was right, maybe she was still that sweet girl underneath. He mentioned going to check up on Dove and Eugene and she hummed, "I'll make us something to eat and drink," she said. There was a weird feeling coming off of Victor, one that she couldn't really pinpoint.

Eugene was running a small fever, his eyes closed as his breath was a bit irregular. His face was still looking a little ghastly, but somehow the fever brought him a bit more color to his face. If they checked his pulse they would feel it was rather regular.
Eugene laid like this for several hours before he finally came to, gasping for air as he sat up quickly. His body aching, but it wasn't the same pain as before. Looking around his room he frowned. "Lainey?" He called, moving his feet out over the bed, standing up on his own. He frowned, looking down at his feet, one had visible blue veins glowing slightly as he used his foot. What was going on? He grabbed his cane, not that he leaned on it much, but he thought maybe his body was in some state of shock, and once he was out of that state his body would collapse without support. Raven and Victor had gone home at this point, needing to attend the kids and the rest of the operation. "Lainey?" He called again, his voice a little stronger.

Dove had gone to wash the cloths she had been using to keep Eugene clean. She didnt really hear him call out the first time, but the second time she did. She got up and went to see him, frowning as she was sure he was supposed to stay in bed. “How… what’s going on?” She asked, feeling so confused. How could he be walking around when he had clearly been sick? She moved closer, carefully reaching out to cup his face in her hands. But the moment her hands touched his skin, it was like accidentally touching an overcharged outlet. She was zapped, far stronger than just touching someone that had been rubbing their socks on a rug. He probably felt it too, the intensity of it all. She fell over, gasping and shaking as her body was in shock. She didnt even know if her heart was still beating.

Eugene smiled as he saw her, "I don't know," he replied, chuckling softly as he felt a little happy. He wanted to pull her in, let her feel how strong he felt, but as she touched his face all that happiness disappeared. She fell over, and he managed to catch her, his cane falling to the floor. He wouldn't be strong enough to hold her for long, his body still adjusting to the change, but for now he held her. "Lainey?" He pleaded softly, careful not to let her touch his skin. What had happened? He got her in to the living room, falling to his knees as she was placed on the couch. "Lainey ... Lainey, please, can you hear me?" He pleaded, not daring to touch her skin. What had he done? He felt so powerless and yet strong. "Please, please wake up," he pleaded softly, his eyes filling with water.

She was moved but it wasnt like the change from the floor to the couch changed the fact that she was going through seizures, uncontrollably shaking and gasping shallow and weak. She heard him call but it wasnt like she could do much. The seizures eventually stopped, her body exhausted and weird. She didnt understand what was happening and it was so scary. “Eugene…” she mumbled faintly, looking in his direction but it was like she couldnt fully see him. She felt paralyzed and stumped, not even able to decide when she wanted to blink. Her eyes felt like they were slowly drying up. “Are you okay?” She whispered faintly and weak. In the end, she only cared about him and his wellbeing.

Eugene felt his eyes well up as soon as he heard her say his name. The whole time he had just been sitting there, unable to do anything, and now she was asking how he felt? "Don't think about me when you're the one hurting," he muttered. Why did she have to be so kind? His cheeks were soon enough filled with tears, looking at her as he was powerless to do anything. "Is there anything I can get for you?"

Her body slowly began to hurt while the shock was leaving. She was however pretty strong, even if she felt like crying, she wouldnt. “Just hold my hand. And be nice like you’ve always been.” She told him, wanting to move her hand by herself but not being able to. She didnt even care if he would zap her again, it would be fine in her head. “You are one of the kindest men I’ve ever spent my time with. And I was really liking the idea… of just being some housewife, helping out and keeping clean. Thank you.” She whispered. She knew she was dying, there was no way around it.

He did as she wanted him to, holding her hand, but it seemed as though there wouldn't be another zap. The energy had already been depleted from her, so he just touched her hand, caressing it as he was crying. She spoke so kind words and it was in that moment he realised just how much she had come to mean to him. She wasn't just a replacement for Jane, no, what they had was completely different. "Lainey," he muttered softly, shaking his head as she thanked him. He leaned over her, pressing his forehead to hers, letting her feel his warmth and comfort like she had so many nights. If this was her last moments, he wanted her to feel safe and loved. "I can't bear to lose you," he pleaded, leaning down to kiss her lips one last time. He knew it was goodbye, and he felt cursed. Why did everyone he loved had to leave before him when he was the one sick? "Thank you ... for everything ... for caring for me when I couldn't even do that ... for holding me, when the nights got too lonely to face," he whispered, he was hyperventilating slightly, he couldn't handle saying goodbye. As her body gave in he sobbed over her, holding her limb body close as he cried, "I don't like being left behind," he pleaded in to her shirt.

It was nice to feel his warmth and comfort, but she began feeling nothing at all, slowly but surely. She chuckled softly at his plea but it was cut short quick. “And you worried that you would go first.” She remarked, feeling her heart beat faster but it was like it was pumping blood into nowhere. She didnt quite know why it felt that way but it was too late to question anything. She just listened to him in her last moments before she passed quietly, as if she had just fallen asleep.

It was Victor who came by next morning to discover what had happened. Frowning he stood over her corpse wondering what could have gone wrong. But then he decided. It was better to get rid of her before Raven could know. How would she be able to focus on her mission if her flock was dying? He hadnt really said a single word. Not until later.
And when he did, it of course had to be him barking orders. “Dont tell Raven.” Victor told Eugene as they stood by the manmade grave. He looked to Eugene with a serious look in his eyes. “I will let her know when the time is right.”

Forgotten childhood memories - Page 13 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Forgotten childhood memories   Forgotten childhood memories - Page 13 EmptySat Dec 04, 2021 4:41 pm

Eugene hadn't left her side since she had died, his tears had run dry, but he was just sitting there. Caressing her hand. Telling her everything, everything that he could think of. He knew she was long gone, but he felt the need to just say everything. There had been so much left unsaid between him and Jane, and he didn't want it to be like that with Dove. So he took his time.
The next morning Victor found them, Eugene still mourning, he had barely slept, but had ended up helping Victor dig her grave. It was a pretty site in the garden they had picked. Eugene had recalled how much she had spoken about wanting to paint the tree when spring came and it would start to bloom. So she was placed under it, the ground frozen and hard to dig through, but she got in eventually. Victor's orders surprised him. But then again he knew that Raven hadn't handled losing Jane very well, he could only imagine what she would feel to lose another.
So he promised not to say a word. Returning to his work as he had nothing else to do. "I've been fiddling around with the masks," he said, showing a prototype to him, "it can withstand the gas much longer and filter it to clean air much better."

He followed the human inside, just to make sure that everything was fine. Crossing his arms he looked at what was on the work table, but then he saw the dead power cell along with the spider thing lying on the floor oddly. It was normally scattering around to push stuff around or up on Eugene's shoulder. "Well, you'll have to put it to the test then. I want you to look at something." he said more seriously, looking at Eugene with uncertain eyes. He didnt really know what to make of what he had seen, but it was obviously something that he wanted an expert opinion on. "I think one of the rival gangs have stolen some inventions from Jane's old workshop." he said. "Or something. You know her tech, probably better than anyone after working together for so long?" he added like he wasnt even sure what to believe.

"I'm fairly familiar with her builds," he said nodding as he tried not to think too much. His body still felt weird. Like it was full of energy, but he didn't know where to place it all. He didn't know where to focus, and now he just stared at the prototype as he tried calming his breath. "How can you be certain that it's some other gang?" He asked.

He breathed out at the question, shrugging lightly. "I'm not actually too sure. It just seems to unlikely to be a solo man thing." he sighed. He looked at the mask on the table, wondering how many resources it would take just to make more for people. "But these masks, they will cause trouble when people begin to see them." he warned him. "For now, it's a necessary risk that we're running."

Eugene listened to Victor, but he felt so far removed from everything right now. Losing Dove had meant losing another one he had grown to care for. She had been behind him during it all, been there when the nights got to heavy. He hummed at the words about the masks. "I suppose ... I might need to rework the design, make them collapsible or perhaps camouflaged better," he thought out loud before he looked around his workshop. "These will be easier to make ... they don't need the same filters, because the small motor cleans the air," he said.
"Either way, I have something else to show you; though I don't know if it will be better or worse," he said, opening a drawer, taking out a key he handed to Victor. He pointed to a small cabinet. Inside Victor would see reworks of Jane's bombs, being able to change out the contents; smoke, fragments, explosives. It was all possible.

“That would be good for hiding them. The less people see of them, the less we have to worry about scavengers and muggers.” He said with a sigh. There were also the gangs but that was a completely different headache. Sure, Winston had been a thorn in his side, but he had also kept order somewhat in the area. He took the key as Eugene handed it to him and went to the cabinet. Opening it, he was surprised to see the bombs. But he also smiled. “I guess we dont have to worry as much about masks with these. How do they work?” He asked, taking out one to inspect. It seemed like some sort of puzzle and Victor wasnt exactly a tech savvy, at least not if he had to navigate himself.
“Are you fit to go? Or would you like to rest first?” He asked. It would have been easier, had Dove still been here. She had seemed to know when Eugene needed something, better than Victor ever could or cared to.

Eugene got up, taking the small bomb from him and placing it back with the others. "I didn't create these as a replacements to the masks," he said with a more stern voice. He had never created anything that could harm. At least not others. No, these were meant as a last solution. "I will show you how they work in due time, but they are still only prototypes, and not to be messed with," he took back the key, placing it back in the drawer that closed by itself. He wasn't going to let what was in the cupboard get misused.
Fit to go? He realised he hadn't been taking his medication the last several hours and were practically only limping around. It was a little crazy. "I think I am, I just need to pack my satchel," he said, getting to it. He picked up Beep as well, placing him in the bag just for safekeeping. And he wanted to figure out a way to salvage his little helper.

The small bomb was snatched from his hand and he looked at the human with a frown. Why had he shown him these if they were not for being used? That was silly, at least if you asked Victor. “You seem to forget that down in The Blocks, the only way to survive is to fight back.” He reminded him. But for all Victor knew, Eugene might as well have been from Churchill.
He let him pack a satchel and once that was done, they could go. The first place Victor decided to go to was the place that had caught attention. It had been a minor explosion inside of a tunnel, no one getting hurt but a shipment that Victor had wanted had been destroyed. But it wasnt just someone messing up his shipments that was the weird part. It was the text on the wall by the destroyed shipment. Reaching there, he looked at the words again. TRAITORS in a glowing red, like someone had mixed glowlights with blood and smeared it out on the wall. He bumped into some scrap, leaning down to pick it up. “It’s got her inscriptions all over it. But I have never seen her make anything like this before.” He said, gesturing to the outline of the blast. He turned the piece in an idle manner to realize there was a letter on the back of it. He frowned. “E?” He said, looking at it before showing Eugene.

Eugene followed Victor, still having his cane as his limbs felt stiff and weird. Though he felt like he could move more easily, he wasn't going to risk it. The tunnel surprised him, seeing the writing before Victor picked up some scraps. Being showed it he frowned as well. Jane had always signed hers with a J next to a small picture of a bird. Unless. "If it was one of our shared designs we both signed our names," he said in a ponder, but he couldn't think of anything they had made that could cause this. No, Victor had always wanted to help people, not harm them. The bombs he had made were for distraction, to get people away from harm, not to be used directly. "But the metal has been reshaped," he said, pointing at some more debris, "but ... how would someone stealing Jane's things know how to rework it?" He was confused. He knew, but he hadn't done this. Though now it might seem he had. "I need you to collect as much debris as possible, I might be able to reconstruct it, and figure out the design," he said, coughing a bit, a small tremble running down his spine. He looked to the bloody words shortly before heading out of the tunnel. He needed fresh air.

Something they had made together? And when would that have been something that could cause this much damage? But Victor agreed to collecting the scraps and he did that as Eugene headed out. Down in The Blocks, it could be snowing and still when evening slowly came, so did a slightly thick fog. Eugene would find himself surrounded by it, but it shouldnt be that dangerous here. Except that a few steps were heard, light and quick as they passed him just to stop not far from him. He would probably be able to see the outline of someone, how they turned to look his way. Whoever it was, they had been watching them, listening to what they had said. And just then, the shape began moving, fast steps away.
Victor would come out with the scraps he had been instructed to collect in a dirty sack he had found.

As he got out he put on his mask, just to be sure, and as he did he looked at the figure looking at him. In the fog he couldn't make out who it was, but something in him stopped. It was as if time stood still. "Z-" he muttered before the figure ran off. Victor came and he had to shake his head. He was imagining her again. He was seeing her everywhere, just like before him and Dove had grown closer. He felt his heart in his throat, and as Victor handed him the sack he limped off quite quickly. He needed to get out of the fog, away from the toxic air and back to his workshop.

He frowned as the human took tge sack without a word. Frankly Eugene seemed a little distraught but Victor felt quite sure that they couldnt be in any kind of danger here. He didnt follow Eugene but rather went back in to look for more clues. Something just didnt add up, how someone seemed to view him as a traitor. He looked at the text, touching it before smelling it. He couldnt figure out what it was. He moved and hadnt even realized the tripwire he walked into and brokez. He just stood for a bit in this thoughhts before something slowly rolled at him, unfolding to look like something that had a head and hands. It began chuckling in a mechanic voice, the hands clapping together before it exploded, spreading a thicker, more annoying type of gas. The boom was quite loud.

Eugene stopped as soon as he heard the loud explosion, turning around to see the gas spreading out from the tunnel. He hurried back, his limbs aching as he entered the tunnel. "Victor!?" He screamed, coughing as it was hurting a bit even through the mask. He eventually found him, grabbing him, but being careful not to touch his skin, pulling him out from the tunnel. This was bad. Looking back in to the tunnel he frowned. This had Jane written all over it. But she was dead. Who was copying her? "Who are you!?" He yelled out, not knowing if anyone was there, shaking as he tried waking up Victor.

The yell wasnt answered but the figure was was. As if they had backtrailed as soon as they had gotten out of sight. It was a small figure, wearing a large hoodie with blood on the sleeve, hood up. They even wore an mask and some welding goggles to remain anonymous. Stepping closer, her grey eyes had a bit of shine to them behind the glass now that she had been inhaling her own fog. “I’m Jane?” She chuckled, to then look at Victor. She grabbed a thing from her belt, as if she wanted to just finish the job then and there.

Eugene was sitting on the ground, his body trembling as the mask he had wasn't helping much when he felt like hyperventilating. He took it off, putting it on Victor instead. He could face death now. It was alright. Jane and Dove were waiting for him on the other side. He got up, holding on to his cane as the stranger said her name, but it was more said as a question. He stopped. "No," he said, shaking his head. How could someone be so cruel. Taking the name of the one person that he had felt truly understood him and now making a mockery of her memory? "You are not Jane, my Jane, my Zippy wouldn't do this," he said quite determined. His breathing was weak, the whistle returning as he was shaking more as he stepped forward. "You are someone who wants to hurt her friends, the ones she cared for and who cared for her!"
